...some folks I'm not so familiar with: Ed Gladden, Herbert Morgan...

Herbert/Herbie Morgan might take some doing, but the relatively few records he's one are all gems.

Ed/Eddie Gladden is all over the place, or was once he started getting the profile from the Dexter gig. You can follow his trail with confidence and no a lot of difficulty. Truly, a truly great drummer.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the leads!

When I checked Gladden out, I saw some of those live Dexter dates that are on my wish list already. Going to have to bump those up higher.

He's in peak form on James Moody's Never Again and something else called The Hip Organ Trio, Newark stuff on Muse, pre-Dexter.

Checking out that Moody now. The CD reissues are high $$$ but the LPs look affordable. And of course it streams...

March 18 or March 13? Amazon shows this same cover but it shows March 13 though they say it's March 18!  (And they don't have it.)

Trompeta Toccata, sounds spectacular! Probably my favourite of the Kenny & Joe albums.

Tenors Head On - Bill Perkins and Richie Kamuca (Liberty, 1957)

I love Kamuca's Lester Young pose on the cover. A clue to what lies within, as if anyone needed it.

The Hip Organ Trio is the Xanadu reissue of Never Again.  Same music.  I guess Schlitten got those tapes when he and Joe Fields parted ways.

Another LP with Eddie Gladden that I would definitely recommend:

Mickey Tucker - Mister Mysterious (Muse, 1979)
IMO, this is Mickey Tucker's finest hour as a leader.

Since it's out of print, here's the full LP on YT:

Raul de Souza (1934 - Sunday) is another one of those musicians that I
had a less than stellar introduction to. When I wrote for the Dallas Jazz News,
I was given a copy of his 'til Tomorrow Comes" album which I panned because of
its disco shenanigans - "...apparently he was bone to disco..."
Since then, I've begun to appreciate a bit more of his work as a sideman.
His latest and, apparently, his last album:

My CD cover and the liner notes clearly say March 13, 1961. I didn't notice that the photo I copied says March 18, but it sure does. I got this CD from DustyGroove.

Kevshavan Maslak - Blaster Master (Black Saint, 1984)

A bit of fire in my veins on a hot Wednesday evening.

This might have one of my all time favourite album covers.

Prompted by some Erroll Garner discussion elsewhere on the board:

I'm listening to the cuts originally released as Gemini (1972).
