I bought "Basra" today, my local record store had it prominently displayed in the 'new releases' section. I don't think anyone takes offence at the title over here in Europe...
I had never heard this record before (I'm pretty new to jazz), but I'm listening to it right now, and I really like what I'm hearing.
I really dislike late-nineties 'nu-metal' by Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park and their ilk. That stuff was really popular with people my age a couple of years ago, but I always thought it stunk. Especially Bizkit, with that whining brat Fred Durst.
There was another recent episode where Bart found a stack of Homer's old "Playdude" magazines. Bart turned the treehouse into a bachelor pad and he and Milhouse were listening to "Miles Davis vol. 1". Milhouse asked "when they would start with singing".
Hi, I've been lurking here for a while.
I'm pretty new to jazz (I'm 27, have been listening and going to shows for about 8 years) so I don't really have much to contribute to the board. I do like lurking here, and I found out about lots of good music by reading topics.
