Good live band too but I've not listened to them in decades

Jazz Dance and Acid Jazz had a crossover but didn't map exactly onto eachother. Jazz Dance was about dancing to Jazz, rediscovered BNs etc and some Rare Groove. Acid Jazz was about music with a hint of Jazz or a hat tip or knowing wink to Jazz, often a hint to add enough hipness. The most Jazz Acid Jazz band was probably James Taylor Quartet.

Cleo Soul is Neo Soul Yes, but I'd Acid Jazz wasn't only party music, s lot was but not exclusivly It was also a record label (Gilles P) which helped define the term in real time. Acid Jazz came from the Rare Groove and older well established Soul scene when that came up against a Jazz Dance scene focussed on Dingwalls where all of a sudden we were dancing to Blakey and others. Younger musicians blended the influences to varying degrees. Acid Jazz then spread out definitely to Japan, see UFO as early adaptors And the Jazz Cafe evolved from a predominantly Jazz venue to one that presented all of the music we're talking about and as @Rabshakeh says, in his youth, not mine the Jazz acts were a lot less common. I don't see Acid Jazz morphing into Neo Soul, Acid Jazz largely faded whilst Neo Soul emerged in parallel, we haven't mentioned Maxwell have we?

He's very big in the younger scene that crosses over to other genres of R'n'B, Neo Soul, hip hop etc And in a way it doesn't surprise me that Bartz hired him as he's always been open to similar crossover. (cue the "but he's not Jazz" protests from the Jazz Police)

When I asked about a CD edition I was told that that's what AB would like and "wait and see". I've had the London Leo since the late 80s I think and saw the quartet in '91 at the Jazz Cafe, very memorable

Muneer A.F. and The Rhythm String Band Vol III - For Them [Idibib Productions, USA 1988] Fascinating album,a precursor to Threadgill's Zooid sound but without the saxophone. Either that or influenced by the contemporaneous Threadgill Sextett.

That's a terrific pairing. RLJ is desert island territory for me, possibly 'Pirates' over that one, depends on the day

No solo tracks on 'Ondas' so it's not the one @Erick seeks. But what a superb album it is, my LP sounds absolutely gorgeous. Christensen (one of my favourite drummers) and Gomez are so on it throughout

Admirable reasoning there @Pim 1. I tend to agree but do buy LPs of new releases of artists that I really like or that the music sounds like it should be on LP (please don't ask me to explain this one, I can't!) 2. This has never bothered me perhaps because I'm old enough to have grown up with LPs so getting up is natural. I can get fidgety with a 70+minute CD these days 3. Completely agree about this. I have CD artists and LP artists for much the same reason. Interestingly I have Brahem's complete catalogue on CD so he's a CD artist in my head. So why did I buy the LP this time, see reason 1 above... 4. that was silly And as for them not touring here, I still blame f@@##£g Brexit, definite drop in European acts visiting (and who can blame them really)

That's a great album whether it's the one being sought or not
