Hey, getting better! You made several posts before going back to politics!

Hey, when you saw "Gandhi," during one of his hunger protests, did you shout out to the screen, "Hey have a Cheeseburger, tell everyone how good cow is!" Or, "Being under British rule isn't that damn bad!" Can I sit right next to you at a jazz concert someday, and at the top of my lungs shout "FREEBIRD!" with a lighter in my right hand?

Wonder if a few old Jazz men and woman should reinvent themselves as some new Young Lions????? POPPYFIELDS RAISE THE ALARM Welsh rockers The Alarm have pulled off an amazing chart comeback by entering the top 40 for the first time since 1990 with their new single '45RPM'. However, The Alarm, who can lay claim to 14 Top 50 singles, and album sales of over 5 million worldwide, took the unusual step of releasing their new hit single as The Poppyfields. Many might have considered the move to be commercial suicide, but the reason behind the decision to release the '45RPM' single under a pseudonym came about while the band were recording demos for the band's forthcoming new album, titled 'In The Poppyfields'. The Alarm's lead singer, Mike Peters, explains, "We thought we'd send the demo for '45RPM' to a few radio stations, but made out it was a new band so we could get some honest feedback. The reaction was so good that were blown away! However, we were sure the reaction wouldn't have been so positive if they knew it was The Alarm. We noticed that a lot of bands suffered when they attempt comebacks because people generally don't believe they can ever be as good as they once were. We wanted to make sure that we are judged purely on the strength of the music, and not by our old hairstyles!" With '45RPM' entering the Top 40 on Sunday, Mike has decided to come clean, "We've proved a point to ourselves more than anything, and in doing so we're back in the charts. It's amazing really and I'd really like to thank all the people who have supported '45RPM' at radio and press across the country, and all the people who have bought it. " The Alarm will release another single - this time as The Alarm - and will play more live dates across the UK before releasing a new album, 'In The Poppyfields', in April on the Snapper Music label. Wow, you are getting as good as Chris at turning every thread into a Bush Bash!

I think Erskine Hawkins had a better than average band, a few less than stellar vocalists, but that is to be expected isn't it? Hawkins and Dud Bascomb are the "name" soloists, I have read somewhere that even though Hawkins was known for hitting high notes, it was really Bascomb most of the time...Also read that he had a very stable lineup thru the years, which may be why we don't know the names of the other bandmembers....I have 2 cds(3 if you count the 2 cd set that way) I have a black and Blue label cd called from Alabama to Harlem 1938-1940, that I am surprised to see is still in print...it is pretty good, but the value for the money set is the Collectables cd called "the Complete Erskine Hawkinds, 1938-39 2 cds with 34 tracks, with nice remastering... click on the link below to listen to the tracks, and/or get it for $12.99! http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/pro...6-2004+08:40:03 Just putting the cd in, I can't really think of another band that they sound like, not that they are that original, just nice late 30's swing......

As far as I know, none of the Bunny Berigan with Goodman Caravan shows have made it to cd, have they???? My Dad has a record somewhere of a Caravan show with Bunny, but the sound quality was just terrible!!! Will have to keep an eye out for the Radio years cd! Thanks for the 411 (The Information!)

Kind of surprised by that, but then again, I don't imagine many on this board seeing this film....I know I won't, just seeing Jesus slowly, painfully beaten to death is not my cup of tea.....interesting reviews so far..... http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ThePassion...Christ-1129941/

By interesting, I mean, compared to my story...someone must have a story about being stuck on the 45th floor with a beautiful woman, having to hold each other all night to stay warm.... Anyway, few photos from the great blizzard of 2004! What little there is is sleet, not snow....It looked like a real snowstorm briefly in Gainesville Georgia.... -
We had one of our freak late winter storms...no snow on my side(South) of Atlanta... Amazingly windy, which knocked our power out at 10:30 PM. I go to bed much later than that! Couldn't find a flashlight, cuz it was dark and the magnetic flashlight was not on the fridge like it should be! Where are those damn matches, anyway? Found some finally....went to bed, and it started to sleet against my window, then thunder and lightning! temp dropped 10 degrees inside before the power came back on at 3:00. Glad it did come back on then! Atlantians overreact every time there is a threat of a few flurries, and clean the stores out of bread and milk. But this happens because they remember the bad ice storms in the past that have stranded them in their houses for a few days..anyway, anyone have an interesting story about being stranded by the weather, or in a blackout???

I bought sparingly new and a few used cds til I started at Borders in 1995, then with 30 bucks a month "book" credit, and the ability to run up a $300 tab, and 25% off all the time,(40% off one day a year!) I bought a fair number of cds the next 4 years! Now, something new I have to have(I have gotten much more patient, I can wait for a great deal!) I get as cheap as possible at Tower when they have 25% off sale, or from www.deepdiscountcd.com . Ebay can be scary, I will forget to do a search for several weeks, then I find someone selling tons of early jazz dirt cheap...and then.....

What jazz cd has the longest playing time?
BERIGAN replied to medjuck's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Well, I see my Marsh cd (at 78:14) ties for 97th place. I also see my lp version of "People In Sorrow" makes the list of 150. Why am I broke? Cuz you smoke cigarettes, and are a liberal??? -
Some friends of mine, who are also into film noir BTW, had a VERY similar reaction to The Man Who Wasn't There. This was reason enough for me to avoid it. I also really enjoyed Miller's Crossing, saw it three times when it came out. After that, Barton Fink was a major bummer. (For me, Oh Brother got better as it went along.) I'm almost afraid to see Miller's Crossing now, for fear that it won't live up to the memory. In the running for one of the worst movies every made: Hudsucker Proxy. A misfire of almost Hudson Hawkian proportions. (Hypothesis: all films with "Hud" in the title suck.) Bruce, somewhat surprised a Coen Bros. fan wouldn't like Barton Fink! have you ever given it a second chance? Hudsucker Proxy is one of the worst films ever, a Hudson Hawk?

Entertainment - Variety LENA HORNE ZAPS JANET Mon Feb 23, 7:00 PM ET MICHAEL FLEMING and JOSEF ADALIAN (Variety) In the latest ripple caused by Janet Jackson (news)'s Super Bowl exposure, the singer has abruptly withdrawn from an ABC biopic about Lena Horne (news) ---putting the project in limbo. Storyline Entertainment partners Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have ankled as exec producers in solidarity with Jackson, who was due to play Horne. A spokeswoman for Jackson said she was effectively dis-invited from the movie by Horne and her daughter Gail Lumet Buckley, who were incensed when Jackson flashed during the halftime show. Horne refused to return her contract for the pic until ABC guaranteed that Jackson was off the project, which is being produced by Storyline and Sony Pictures Television. ABC execs refused Horne's demand, but the issue has become moot with the reaction of Jackson, Zadan and Meron. Alphabet insiders said the project is now up in the air; barring another superstar casting, however, it's unlikely to move forward. "It's sad this had to happen. It was a perfect match," one ABC insider said. The Super Bowl stunt has had far reaching implications. The FCC (news - web sites) is investigating, and broadcasters have in turn tightened the screws to eliminate the chance of another unscripted surprise that could shock and offend mass audiences. Stormy weather was rumored to be brewing over the ABC biopic early last week, as word surfaced that Horne's displeasure hadn't abated. At the time, it was hoped that the singers would meet and that the duet would end harmoniously. But Horne refused to meet with Jackson. Jackson looked at the movie as a prestigious way to jumpstart her acting career, which has included roles in 1970s sitcom "Good Times" and John Singleton (news)'s "Poetic Justice." She was recently photographed as Horne in a glamorous Vanity Fair layout. Zadan and Meron left the project right after Jackson, and a spokeswoman for the producers said they would concentrate on finding another project to do with the singer. It's not surprising they stuck by Jackson. While ABC already had optioned a Horne bio, it wasn't until Jackson approached the producers that the project became a film on the fast track. Jackson signed to play the elegant singer who broke racial barriers, and she also planned to re-record some of Horne's classic songs. "She is someone I've admired my whole life," Jackson said of Horne when the project was greenlit last fall. Roy Campanella Jr. was set to direct Shirley Pierce's script based on "Lena," the autobiography the singer wrote with Richard Schickel. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ne_zaps_janet_1

Got this by email, so don't know if it is a real test or not, but interesting.... TEST: Read this question, come up with your answer, then scroll down to the bottom for the result. This is not a trick question. It is as it reads. No one I know has gotten it right - including me. A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met this guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing, so much her dream guy that she believed him to be, she fell in love with him right there but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later, she killed her own sister. QUESTION: What is her motive for killing her sister? (Give the question some thought before you answer) ANSWER: She was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test given by a famous American Psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality of a killer. Many arrested serial killers took the test and answered it correctly. If you didn't answer the question correctly, good for you. If you got the answer correct, please let me know so I can take you off my email list, unless that will tick you off, then I'll be extra nice to you from now on. I guessed the sister killed the Mom...glad to know I am not a psychopath!
