Myron Walden Momentum Live: Our Sound (4CD)
Got this instead of the new Miles bootleg because it was waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper.

I agree 50% isn't bad. Also a good reason not to track what you trade.

oooooooo I'm intrigued. My classic died. Picked up an old 32gb touch on craigslist for $40 to hold me over.

Grace is phenomenal
The Matador and The Bull and Victory are also very good imo. I haven't spent much time with I Am I Am, only streamed it. Same with Bloom. Honestly I felt his sound developed until it culminated into Grace and I'm waiting for him to head in a new direction. I haven't heard Graffiti yet though, but to me anyway, I feel artist get stuck in a rut on the Savant label and nothing new comes from artists that release multiple titles with them. I also have In Search Of... and enjoy it well enough. Nothing too provocative though to me.

William Parker - For Those Who Are Still samples are up on amazon and itunes.... the sample for Souls Have Fallen Like Rain (track 2 disc 2) and Escapades For Sonny (track 11 disc 3) were the only ones that seemed to grab me.

Darius Jones - Le bébé de Brigitte (Lost in Translation) these samples sound fantastic to me.

One could argue that CDs in general are becoming less and less desirable.
I don't think there is much of an argument for this to ring true.

I only own two selects, Bobby Bradford's purchased new and Onzy Matthews on ebay. I got the Onzy for less than retail of a new selects set.

Purchased last week
Myron Walden - Like A Flower Seeking The Sun (NYC Records, 1999)
Amazing album! I've probably listened to it a dozen times since I got it. Spun it again last night cooking dinner

just ordered these two Ivo cd's. Takes my Ivo collection to 28 as a leader.

I'll see what the price point for the Parker is. Sounds interesting enough

Sonny Criss - This is Criss! (stereo)
Bought the SMH-CD version yesterday after passing up on it for a year. Awesome stuff.

EJ Strickland - The Undying Spirit
Own just about everything from Marcus and EJ as leaders so this was a given. Made even more satisfying since Jaleel is on it.

To get back to K. Washington, listening to the clips that have been posted, what he and his fellow musicians do was done (better) 40 years ago - and I had no use for it back then. Recycled pap.
I dig it; nobody has to like this music.
However, I would say that for some young African-Americans, what Washington et al. are offering enters the category of "history we didn't know we had and which, come to think of it, has actually been denied to us in some important ways." This isn't a nostalgia trip for them. The aspect of discovery here is real.
Somewhat true. But if people made an effort to learn history (and it's out there - only denied if you haven't made an effort to seek it out), they wouldn't need this stuff.
This is really a chicken or egg argument. If they (audience) learned history, they would need this, but I think it clear that Washington has does his history or he wouldn't have created this. I see this as a gateway jazz, but with its promotion from outside of "the jazz world" by brainfeeder etc, the gate may be too wide. I migrated to Jazz from hip hop and my gateway was Christian Scott's Anthem album in 07 when searching for something more engaging then hip hop had become. I would say that album and "the epic" are similar in their audience, but Christian Scott's background was firmly rooted in jazz, and I naturally began digging further down the rabbit hole. I don't listen to Anthem much anymore but it holds a special place with me. I hope "the epic" can do the same for someone else.

i used spotify yesterday because I forgot my ipod at home. But I would guess my total listening time in a given month is 3 hrs max. Part of my issue with Spotify and browsing Tidal is a lack of albums I want to hear. For instance, VInny Golia only has about half a dozen albums on spotify and none of the nine winds catalog is there. The itunes store though has a greater selection of what I like, but I still don't think I will keep it after the 3 months free trial.

I'll give it a go. If you can stream anything in the iTunes store, I feel like the variety will be better.

Myron Walden - Like A Flower Seeking The Sun
Jaleel Shaw and Ambrose Akinmushire gave this high praise on instagram and then I watched an interview Myron did with Bob Reynolds where he mentions this album so I figured I'd order it.

Not sure if anyone has experience with 504 Records but the one title I have from them is a cd-r. Bought it from Louisiana Music Factory. Maybe jeffcrom would know if all their releases are cd-r? I'm heading to New Orleans next week and would like to pick up some more but not at the price they want if cd-r's.
