Set is sold. Thanks for all the help guys!

I had always assumed the back cover was a temporary thing meant to come off after opening since it detached so readily. Anyway, it resides safely within the box lid now.

John Coltrane Prestige box, near new condition. $90 shipped in the USA (will ship to other countries at cost). Payment by check or by paypal. Send me a pm if interested.

Yes indeed. I'm so very glad that my wife gave me that push. Just one of many ways that she changed my life for the better.
-
I started at the age of 38 at the encouragement of my wife. Before that I had played in bluegrass bands. She convinced me I had the talent and the ability to play the music that I have loved since I was a teenager.

"Embers Glow" is available on "Joe Maini The Small Group Recordings" http://www.amazon.com/Small-Group-Recordings-Joe-Maini/dp/B0014I7JXS/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1385751571&sr=1-1&keywords=joe+maini+small+group . Lots of other nice material, too.

I still drop in every couple of months. I drive in with one octogenarian jazz friend to visit another octogenarian jazz friend who lives nearby and can no longer drive. We always allow an hour before we go to see him. I've had a lot of good luck there over the past few years, and even if I don't buy anything I always have a good time listening to my two old guys swap jazz stories
-
I've seen this before. Great footage, but it shows OP playing left handed (!). I'm pretty sure he was a righty.

The set is on hold.

The Pettiford is really nice. 10 of the 16 tracks are issued for the first time, according to the very useful OP discography at http://themenschmidt.de/don.htm. Mostly small group settings with some dynamic playing, with excellent sound.
The trio track with Eddie Costa "Taking a Chance on Love" was released on an lp called "Winner's Circle". A search of Amazon shows that the title has been released on cd in Japan showing John Coltrane as the leader. Since I have that title on vinyl only, I cannot verify if this track is indeed on the cd or not, although I would expect that it would be.
Costa was also on another OP-lead project, Manhattan Jazz Septette, which I highly recommend. Unfortuately that cd is out of print (I have it on a beautiful Japanese reissue vinyl).

Paypal or your check. I will ship to other countries at cost. Send a pm if you want anything.

For Sale
2 important reference books that I find I don't use much anymore. I'm pretty much offering them at my cost. Price includes postage/insurance within the US. I am willing to ship to other countries at cost.
Count Basie a Bio-Discograph by Chris Sheridan. Nice used condition, unmarked. $80
Clarence Williams by Tom Lord. Excellent condition, with a very few notations in ink. It evidently belonged to a smoker and there is a lingering tobacco smell, not too strong. $70
Paypal or your check accepted. Send me a pm if you're interested.

Bringing this up one more time. Until next Friday 3/8 take 10% off listed prices. Order 5 or more, take 20%.

FS: The "Bean Box" 21 lp set
in Offering and Looking For...
Posted
Hello All
I've decided to sell my box on Queen Disc "Bean and the Boys - Coleman Hawkins live an uncommercial recordings 1940-1965" Quen Disc BEAN 01-21. The set is in excellent conditon, 21 lps with a booklet with complete discographical information and a nice box. I'm asking $165, postage included within the USA. I have been told this was a limited edition of 500 copies worldwide. There's a lot of great material on here, but it's time to let someone else have the pleasure of it.
I am willing to ship to other countries but I'm sure the postage would be quite expensive - this thing is heavy!. I can accept paypal or your check. Send me a pm if you're interested.
Thanks
Pete
