Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen. Enjoyable read so far, I'm about a quarter of the way through.

This whole Carlos Correa situation is stupid beyond belief. I wonder who, for the Giants, put the brakes on everything? If it's Farhan Zaidi, then he should be fired. It wasn't a great signing, I wasn't too thrilled with it, but the Giants come of as incompetent in the whole thing.

I was astounded when I first heard this when it came out, and I'm still astounded by its majesty.

Scooby Doo. Fighting a virus from hell, so I'm watching fun movies. This reminds me of the Disney comedies from the 1960s. You have a very good cast, giving good performances. Pretty clean, so the whole family can watch, and you get a quality movie. Granted, it's not an all-time great, but it's an enjoyable, well made movie geared toward families and us oldsters. These are harder to make than they appear, and it probably is making everyone some nice money each year also.

Once you start messing with the rules of baseball, there's no turning back. Juiced baseballs, gambling sponsors, I'm convinced that Rob Manfred hates baseball.

Word is that Aaron Judge signs with the Yankees.
Not surprised, the Giants were always a long shot, no way the Yankees could afford to let Judge get away. Now the Giants can go back to their usual picking up DFA'd players, and guys who are "great pick ups if they stay healthy", eg. Mitch Haniger, which they never do, eg. Evan Longoria.

Treasure Plant: I throughly enjoyed this one; great animation and a good retelling of Treasure Island.

Collected Plays of Tennessee Williams. Reading "Spring Storm", which wasn't produced until the 1980's. A very interesting failure, but you can see Williams starting to put his writing together.

Holiday Baking Championship. I'm a sucker for this show, I watch reruns all the time.

I'd take Evens too, vastly underrated. Belle is tainted by being a jerk, but he wouldn't be the first one in the HofF.

Sad news indeed, an enjoyable and good musician, I happen to dig Sun Goddess very much. RIP

Bumping an old thread is right! it even has Shawn (wonder what happened to him and if he's still in LA) and AfricaBrass in it. Haven't thought about PT in ages, though one of the best rock shows I ever went to was PT in Seattle, it was great. I'll have to take a listen to the new one to see what it's like. Still maintain that Signify is their best album, but maybe I'll revisit some and see what I think of them now. Erik, you were the first to talk about them here, it all seems ages ago.

Porcupine Tree reunited this year, and put out a new album, "Closure/Continuation". It doesn't appear to have really been a conscious decision to reunite, just a sharing of musical ideas mainly between Steven Wilson and Gavin Harrison over the past decade, which then turned into Richard Barbieri also interacting with the other two guys. SW played a lot of the bass on these jams, so apparently they didn't get to the point of asking original bassist Colin Edwin to participate. Anyway, I really enjoy the album, it took a little while to hit me right off, but it's a grower, I think.
They also have a world tour going on, that started on Saturday night in Toronto. Montreal is tonight, with a number of dates in the U.S. to follow, and then Mexico City, a date in Chile, and then Europe. I was able to make it to the Toronto show, and it was a fantastic experience. A lot of joy in the sold out audience, just to see the band back together, after a decade of being defunct and no prospects for a reunion. Randy McStine augments the band on guitar and vocals, and the bass duties are being handled by Nate Navarro. Both did well in their roles, and the core band sounded amazing. The light show and videos are also well done, and fit the music very well.
If anyone is thinking about seeing them, I whole-heartedly recommend you go!

Echo and the Bunnymen: What Are You Going To Do With Your Life? With all the EATB that's being listinged to, it caused me to break out my all-time favorite Bunnymen album. I know some fans find it a dull one, but I love it to death.

Berklee arranging grad Albhy Galuten made up the groove for three (above) Bee Gees tracks. "In 1977, RSO needed four Bee Gees songs for the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack, so I took a drum loop from 'Night Fever' (a single bar that felt really good) and ended up using it on 'Staying Alive' and 'More Than a Woman'." from http://www.berklee.edu/bt/141/coverstory.htm/
"More Than A Women" has such a great feel to it, he did a great job.
