WD45
So how do we start lobbying to get Water to license and reissue the two Kenny Cox BN's??? Seems like it would be right up their alley. Aren't they based in Italy?

Dan Gould
I didn't know the Leo Wright had been licensed. I kind of think of it as a pair with Gloria Coleman's Soul Sisters, only its KB instead of Grant, and I think the drummer is different, too ... but its another rare recording date for Ms. Coleman. That is, if I'm remembering this correctly ...
Rooster_Ties
The link with BN is through Patrick Roques. So THAT'S why the Water BN's look so damn good -- like the real thing. Hell, the Eddie Gales are maybe even a bit BETTER than the real thing (in terms of the quality of the packaging, liner-notes, and etc...). Way to go Patrick!!! Love many of his "pseudo-BN" covers too. A few are even damn near as good as the original style.

Guest akanalog
what's the word on the mcduff? the sidemen certanly didn't thrill me, nor did the song titles. but who knows? anyone hear it? and is the donaldson a step above his other work from this period or par for the course? Soul Stream
Well, got my new Water/Blue Notes today...the Lou and the McDuff. Great Water packaging and attention to detail. Some nice sessions shots in the Donaldson too. One thing I don't dig on Say It Loud. There's an alternate take of Brother Soul that was on a BN compilation a few years back. Good version too. However, it's not included on this new version from Water. THAT's a drag. Why do they DO that?! I mean come on, the original LP length is pretty damn short, 5 songs @35 minutes. The alt. take could have been on there easily and should have been imho. That all said, nice to have Say It Loud on CD FINALLY!

danasgoodstuff
More significant than the above-mentioned alternate is the outtake "Red Top", IMHO. Now we'll probably never hear this, at least until the next format change, WTF?

Interesting to see how the retained take sounds. I guess I'll have to keep my "Lost Grooves" cd now. I agree that is should have been included with this reissue. At least we get a cool cover!
