Well, at the risk of being redundant, this cd cooks. All of the previous adjectives apply, these cats are professionals! Congrats Jim, Joe and Randy on an excellent album. Beginning around 1966 or so, at Xmas time, my bro and I would head back home from college and we'd celebrate the holidays to Jimmy Smith's The Organ Grinder. It became a long standing tradition. As someone said, you guys do JS proud. I'm also really impressed with the recording quality. The sound is great!

And Ron Blake! Man, what a great compliment to the group. I've been listening to Ron's new one Lest We Forget with Joey D, David Gilmore, Greg Hutchinson and Christian Mcbride. Organissimo is right there with 'em. Hang in there you guys! :tup:tup

Ron,

Thanks for the kudos and words of encouragement!

You'll find that on the inside cover. It was the only track not recorded at Glenn Brown Productions.

D'OH!!! Time to have the eyes checked again! :winky:

Y’know, while listening to “Clap Yo Hands,” for a brief moment I forgot I was listening to Organissimo and thought I was listening to Reuben Wilson (one of the most underrated greeeeazers in my book). And while “Young’s Dream” may be the more obvious tribute to Larry Young, “You Don’t Want To Do That” sounds like it could fit beautifully on Young’s Into Somethin’; at times, Blake’s solo veers off into Rivers territory!

i just recieved an e-mail from CDNow:

Your CDs have been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

A team of 50 employees inspected your CDs and polished them to make sure they were in the best possible condition before mailing.

Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CDs into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.

We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved 'Bon Voyage!' to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Tuesday, September 23rd.

I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as "Customer of the Year". We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Thank you once again,

Derek Sivers, president, CD Baby

Thanks Big Al. Are you sure you meant YDWTDT? Perhaps I misunderstood your post, but Blake didn't play on that tune.

Damn, I need to get the eyes AND the ears checked. It was actually "Blake's Shake" I was thinking of (I didn't have the CD with me when I posted yesterday). Figured that out while listening to it on the way in this morning. Also really dug Joe Pass.... er, Gloss's acoustic strumming on "Pre-Dawn Rain!"

Didn't mean to bust your chops, buddy. B) Yeah I like Ron's solo on Blake's Shake too. I love that out-leaning line he plays right after he holds that high note in the last chorus. That was actually a difficult tune in the studio; Ron claimed it was kicking his ass. Yeah, right!

Thanks again for the compliments.

Just wanted to let you guys know that after nearly 7 months (I was the first to order on March 1st) I still enjoy your disc. In fact it continues to improve with each listen (as good music tends to do) as I appreciate more of the subtleties of your playing.

As a guitarist (only in my house) and a fan of the instrument I certainly appreciate Joe's abilities. But Jim, YOU DA MAN. To have such command of such a difficult instrument at your age is remarkable. Your hard work is paying off. I think you've got a great future in the world of B3.

Aw! Thank you, Scott. It has been a lot of work but somehow it doesn't seem that way! :) When you love it as much as I do, it's all fun.

I bless my lucky stars that I grew bored with Prog Rock and went looking for something new. I'm also thankful that my dad had such a nice record collection and got me going on Jimmy Smith. Before I caught the bug and started practicing my ass off, I was basically a one-handed keyboardist who could only play in Eb! My left hand was worthless and I never even thought about playing a pedalboard!

I also thank the forces that be that I met Joe. He's my musical brother, the McCartney to my Lennon! :) Not that I'm comparing us to them, but you know what I mean. :D

And finding Randy was a complete gift. I'd heard his name but never met him and when our steady drummer moved to Boston to go to Berkley, Joe and I searched and searched for someone to take us to the next level. Randy has fulfilled that and then some!

It's a true joy playing with them and I'm glad that you enjoy the music we make. That's what it's all about! :)
