Monk/Coltrane, Jazz Piano Trios, Tolliver pages up

In looking over the Mosaic webpages for these, I was a little disappointed to see several small errors -

Alberquerque Social Swim (Twardzik) - unless there's a good reason for this: the city is spelled Albuquerque

That session is listed as December 1954 but Dan Skea determined it was recorded on October 27, 1954 and it's even listed in the Lord CDROM 5.0 that way.

Crepescule With Nellie (Monk/Coltrane) - this is a long-standing error. The correct spelling of the word is Crepuscule!

Hoping that perhaps these won't be wrong in the actual issues.

Mike

I forwarded your post to Mosaic's Scott Wenzel. I hope they'll correct the errors before the set is released.

'Crepescule' originated on the Riverside 'Monk's Music' LP. The album was produced by Orin Keepnews who also wrote the liner notes without checking a dictionary. He did however note that the word meant 'Twilight'.

French fans of Monk had fun with that word when the album was released!

Well, in my opinion the Twardzik material is the real gem of this collection, but the Rowles material is excellent as well. The Fisher is good. . . you may have that (?). . . .

It's really hard to say what someone else would feel is "worth the money." If you're a big Rowles fan I'd say it may well be.

Good news--- The Piano Trios set arrived today  :tup

Bad news--- Because of snow, power has been out for around 24hrs  :tdown

Good news--- We have a generator and the stereo is hooked to it (priorities :D )  so I'm listening to disc 1 right now.  :tup  :tup  :tup

That blow-by-blow description had me on the edge of my seat. :P

Just got both of mine.  Tolliver 894/5000, Piano Trios 4809/5000 (what? did they pull this off the bottom of the stack  )

Also, check the numbers on the side of the boxes.

Mine has a 5-digit "B2" number on the #19

and the #20 just has MS-020. The 19 has a barcode with numbers

and the #20 has no barcode anywhere  ...so, I totally don't get it!

Sounds good to me but for those who are finicky it is mastered by McMaster.

I'll bite: what's so finicky about not liking McMaster's masterings??

I knew McMaster mastered this set and I generally don't like his mastering jobs (to put it mildly), yet I ordered it, that's how much I love the music.

Some possible bad news about the Tolliver. Mine wouldn't play

on my Bose player ... perhaps due to its being copy protected?

Mosaic sent me a second copy and that wouldn't play either.

Are you sure it's copy-protected? Does it say so in the booklet, on the CD or the inserts?

Did you try another CD player?
