Gary
To be broadcast tonight & available on the website for 1 week. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/jazzon3/index.shtml From the BBC Jazz on 3 Email Subject: What's on Tonight's Jazz on 3 Peter Brotzmann / Nasheet Waits Duo Tonight - Friday 28th October - at 11.30pm on BBC Radio 3 Recently a listener wrote in saying she liked to do the ironing to Jazz on 3 and we wondered what the rest of you do while listening. Back came one reply "I fall asleep". Well, being thick skinned, or perhaps just thick, we'd like to put that down to the lateness of the hour rather than the musical content. It was ever thus for jazz radio it seems. We're on the air a whole half hour before Symphony Sid ever was. Anyway, if you're nodding off with the radio on tonight, there's a rude awakening waiting for you at around 12.15am, courtesy of a firebreathing Peter Brotzmann set. In another slice of our recordings from New York's Vision Festival, the pioneering German energy improvisor goes downtown with the drummer Nasheet Waits, best known for his playing with Geri Allen and Andrew Hill. Right from the off, it's a fiercely intense 45 minutes. The famous Brotzmann tone is there. If you happen to have any recalcitrant woodchip wallpaper on your walls, try holding the speaker against it tonight. That should melt it off. Before that, there's an in depth interview with Brad Mehldau, who'll be talking about his new trio, his anglophile musical tastes and how he found his own voice as an improviser. And to start the show, we've got a little extra from our David Murray session earlier in the year playing with Julian Joseph's trio. Hope you enjoy it!
