If anybody could post the discography, it would be fab. I have the oportunity to buy the LP set but I am not quite sure about the music on this set and what a fair price would be. In print cd set discography on Mosaic's webstie I enjoy this set a lot, but I'm a PIANO LOVER. If you love piano and piano playing I have no fear you would like this one a lot. I can't imagine NOT being a piano lover, so I can't put myself into an objective stance to give a less biased opinion! I meant the set MR6-140 (Complete Master Jazz Piano series) which has been out of print for a long time now. Thanks anyway. This one is also in my target list. jazzbo Posted October 30, 2005 Report Share Posted October 30, 2005 Sorry ASN, I wasn't quite awake yet. I have the cd version of that Master Jazz set. I would never NOT buy a Master Jazz session. This is a great set. I also highly recommend the Earl Hines cds that are NOT a part of this set (there is only one track shared) and the Roy Eldgridge, Jimmy Rushing. . . . If you are interested in piano jazz, and exploring pianists each with a unique style, some of whom recorded very sparsely if at all as solo pianists, then there is very much to enjoy. In other words, defintely recommended Sackville and Chiarosuco also recorded a few of the pianists recorded by Master Jazz and these reissues are of course available at a more reasonable price. In fact, I had no knowledge of its existence prior to seeing it on ebay. I bought it with my Christmas money for $120, which I think is a fair price. I don't have much by any of the musicians involved, and the tracks by pianists I'd never even heard of piqued my interest even further. Keith Dunham is not a very engaging pianist, and Wilson, Hines, and to a lesser extent McShann and Hopkins were already, by this time, well-documented on recordings. Posted November 16, 2022 Report Share Posted November 16, 2022 I had this set but sold it a long time ago because at the time I thought it was a mixed bag - some great and some not so great pianists, or pianists who were past their prime. As I said that was a long time ago (I think it was not long after it came out) and I'm not sure I made the right decision back then. I've been searching for audio samples of the music to see/hear if my feelings were right or not, but I couldn't find any. Any suggestions?
