I'd definitely be up for some of those (actually I'd be up for many of those, but time and money will only allow some  ).  We should plan some more Phillyissimo outings. :tup

Wow, that's an impressive lineup! My wife and I are definitely planning on Eric Alexander on 11/18, and I'd be up for Wallace Roney/Geri Allen on 12/3, which is out my way at one of my alma maters (MCCC). Either/Orchestra are favorites too, but I can't make the date. Martino and Cowell would be nice, but aren't likely to happen. Hope Phillyissimo will consider including me, even though I'm in the 'burbs!

Really want to go to this but I'm boycotting the WCL for no good reason. Guess I'll have to breakdown :)

I'll be @ the Wadada and William Parker shows.

Some that I'm thinking about are the Dave Ballou (11/11), Eric Alexander (11/18), Ben Monder and/or Joe McPhee (11/25), Stanley Cowell (12/2), Leo Smith (12/3) and the Scorch Trio (12/4). I also may be up for Ortlieb's or Chris' some time if someone else is interested.

I'm interested in Alexander, and possibly some of the others you mentioned, Alan. I'd also like to hit Ortlieb's (maybe catch Mickey Roker again and Orrin Evans) and Chris' (especially the guitarists  ). Sounds like Phillyissimo needs to start making some plans. :w

And in terms of Joey D., I say we boycott all organ trios until those goldbricks from Michigan finally get their lazy asses here.

HOLY CRAP!!!

I just got this email from Jamaaladeen.....

Five Spot

1 South Bank Street

Philadelphia, PA 19106-2803

(215) 574-0070

Tenor Saxophonist, composer and Grammy Award Winner David Murray will

be

performing this Thursday June 8th at "The Five Spot" in Philadelphia

along with

world class bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma and Drummer Lee Pearson (Roy

Ayers, Erika

Badu, Lauren HIll). Show time is 9:00 P.M. and admission is $10.00.

This is

a rare performance of David Murray in the Philadelphia area.

Jamaaladeen has been touring with David Murray collaborating on his

West

African Feduek Revue , Gwo Ka Masters Creole project and currently

touring with

the World Saxophone Quartet performing the music of Jimi Hendrix. David

and

Jamaaladeen just finished a new recording project for the World

Saxophone Quartet

on Justin Time Records entitled: "POLITICAL BLUES" . This evening is

being

propelled by the production company "SNEAKIN UP ON YA PRODUCTIONS" .

It's a great

pleasure to host David Murray here in Philadelphia along with

Jamaaladeen

Tacuma on bass and Lee Pearson on Drums. There will be an appearance by

a very

special guest.

If you're in the know, you know that this show will be one of the

hottest

creative performances this summer. Don't miss it.

Short review.....

Pretty cool show last night. The "very special guest" turned out to be Hamiet Bluiett!! John Hicks' wife Elise played flute on a couple of tunes(Her first solo betrayed a lack of confidence/nervousness but by the the end of the night she had a copule of more solos which were quite good.) They played a few WSQ numbers and two Hendrix covers. "Machine Gun" w/ an opening unaccompanied solo by Jamaaladeen was the highlight. Jamaaladeen played his ass off all night long. Too bad Hendrix didn't have him for Band of Gypsies. The drummer, Lee Pearson, was at times amazing and others... well, he dropped the beat during a few tunes and during the 2nd song it took him almost half of the song before he found it again. Very strange. However, he did something that I never seen anyone else do before. He played w/ both of his hands behind his back. Amazing. I mean try to put both hands behind your back so that you right hand is on your left side and left hand is on your right side. Pretty tough, no? I think I would have traded the acrobatics for a metronome though.....

Mark your calendars, guys: I've just confimed a date for a band called organissimo (ever heard of them?) at Art After Five (at the Art Museum) for January 19, 2007. Plenty of notice, so NO EXCUSES!!!

I'm still working on lining up a Philly date or two in October, so stay tuned. :w

Is this part of the Ars Nova series at International House? Rumor has it that the series this year includes CT and DSW as well.
