Tony Kofi

Recommended Posts

Next Sunday night I am going to see Tony Kofi Trio + 1, at a small local jazz club in Ipswich, Suffolk. As he has a new album being released on the 15th May, I expect some of the tracks to be featured. Having read that he has composed the pieces on this album around the sound of the B3 organ I am really looking forward to the 21st May. The musicians are,

Anders Olinder - organ,

Robert Fordjour - drums,

Byron Wallen - trumpet,

Tony Kofi - sax,

The new album is called Future Passes. :tup

Finally picked up this record and its great.

I've uploaded a tune from the BBC broadcast late last year which I've been listening to (if anyone minds I'll take it down)

Definitely worth a purchase

Isn't it called Future Passed?

Anyway, I got interested in him (and the ...Plays Monk release)

because Robert Wyatt highly recommended it, so, I thought, why not check him out!

Hard to get his stuff here in the US tho...

edit: of course, I can get it from the website...thanks!

One of the best organ centric records I've heard in a while (present company excepted of course). Nice writing too.

I saw him live about a year ago with byron Wallen a piano, bass drums and a great young vibes player (though his name evades me). Exciting stuff

Could it have been Corey Mwamba (a protege of Orphy, I think!)?
