mikeweil
As karma would have it, I ordered the Walter Davis Jr Monk solo album on Mapleshade tha Dan mentioned in conjunction with the current BT ..... I'm greatly lookiing forward to hearing it. That's a great one!!! Pierre Sprey (the engineer) played the CD to Dwike Mitchell before issue, who said this was not Walter Davis but Monk playing through Walter Davis' hands ... mikeweil
Still haven't got my copies of two I ordered: The Harry Allen which is OOP - anyone got a surplus copy out there? The Gaslini - ordered from amazon but they can't get it, I'll try another source. Jim, did you like the Walter Davis Play Monk CD?
JSngry
Jim, did you like the Walter Davis Play Monk CD? Yes, very much so. I definitely heard "the spirit moving" on Davis, but I'd never, EVER, mistake anything on there for Monk, which is how I like it.

That's the way great spirits should treat each other, isn't it? I really dig the way he opened up to Monk's musical world.

Jim R
Just yesterday I stumbled onto the Warner Archives CD reissue of that Rosemary Clooney Reprise album with Nelson Riddle. I have to thank that guy who led BFT #4... what WAS that guy's name...
Big Al
The local Barnes & Noble has that, and I keep forgetting to get that one. Thanks for reminding me. I can't remember the guy's name either, but I think he's one of those great things that comes outta Texas! BFT #5 FINALLY kicked my ass into ordering BOTH Quartet Out CDs. Kicked myself again after realizing what I'd been missing. BFT #8 made me get Jack Wilson's SOMETHING PERSONAL. The latest BFT (#10) made me get Roland Kirk's THE INFLATED TEAR. mikeweil
Now do you actually buy any of the dics you like in the tests, or do you just forget to post here? Today I picked up this one from # 19: Last week I received Richie Beirach's Snow Leopard after a nice track on a previous test: So what? RDK
Hmmmm. Does it count to search through one's collection to find the numerous tracks/discs that one has but didn't recognize when they did pop up on a BFT? If so, then yes! RDK
Seriously, to the question, yes. Most recently, Zawinul's "Third Stream" disc. More often for me, though, it leads me to sample an artist whom I'd never heard of previously.
