ubu -

I really enjoyed the Steamboat disc on first listen! Quite a lot going on during that set...I'll need to listen to it a few more times before it really sinks in.

thanks again!

John, glad you like it! (And glad the disc finally found its way - hell, it was sooner in OZ than in the US  )

Hi ubu,

Received mine today! Thanks!

Looking forward to having a close listen. (Seems like were straddling the like / dislike fence on this one. Should be VERY interesting. MY opinion, of course, will be definitive. )

Hey Tony, sure, no problem with definitive (that's those spaniards, yes?) opinions :P

I hope now to find the time to explore the Brötz set you copied for me. On friday, there will be the second broadcast from the Chicago Tentet, playing something by Michael Wertmüller (a composition after the book by Schindel, "Gebürtig", I think) - you will get that in return, as I promised.

I have to write the last lines of my university s**t tonight and then I have some more time to listen...

Hey, Д.Д., are you listening? Friday, 11pm to 12pm on SWR2 (you should get that in the romandie, too, I think!) - NowJazz Session: Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Michael Wertmüllers "gebürtig", performed live in Karlsruhe (the recording comes from some time in 2003, would have to look up when exactly).

Flowers For Johnny (Ayler)

One Final Note Review...

Looks interesting.

This set, along with the live Albert Ayler, the Exploding Customer disc and the Jemeel Moondoc Tentet disc are all on my list of Aylers to pick up asap. Jan i putting out some essential discs. The Jimmy Lyons box is fantastic and I have really enjoyed all of the single discs on Ayler I have heard so far.

Thought this had been mentioned somewhere else on this Board. If not, you did it right, Chaney. Ayler Records is one of the two or three most stimulating labels around. I'm trying to keep track on their releases. They're really very good...

ubu, Brötzmann broadcast sounds great - but I don't have a radio. Please record this one!

I will! Once I get together my CDR abilities and facilities you're in for a treat... (the first part of that concert was broadcast in autumn VERY GOOD MUSIC - my first encounter with the Chicago Tentet - Chaney, I started with the box yesterday, but having had a headache - almost constantly for the last four days, shit! - I had to stop after disc1 track1. Love that one, though!)

I have it, and it's very good, as I already mentioned up somewhere. It is a double CD, so it's a bit pricey.

I don't think Ayler is one of the best labesl out there - they and Eremite specialise in excellent classical '60s-'70s American-style free jazz, but we are returning to the "exciting" question of what's innovation and what's not.

Here's a innovative label for you: http://www.auand.com

Courtesy of BBC Radio 3 - Jazz on Three ,I have a number of excellent Brötzmann broadcasts.

A great quartet with Joe McPhee from the Empty Bottle,

the Chicago Tentet with William Parker guesting fromm 2001- Austria and a

trio session recorded in London from 2002/3. I guess Jez must like his Brötzmann.

Have any of their discs?

I have and greatly enjoy

AU9002 Francesco Bearzatti "VIRUS"

AU9001 Gianluca Petrella "X-RAY"

the first features some electronica and sort of syn. voice in little bits but its mainly driven by the sax and drums- I have nothing else like this, it's very accessible despite its innovative sound.

Xray is straighter freeish jazz with Petrella being Europes answer to the stunning Jeb Bishop

Innovative?

I listenened to all of the sound samples and, while I liked what I heard -- YES! I WANT THEM ALL! -- innovative wasn't a word that came to my mind.

Is this label owned by Marco Valente - THE 'Marco' of Jazzos? Looks like Jazzos has a deal when buying all four CDs - around $50 for all four.

Auand is owned by Marco Valente. I have the first four CDs and was very impressed by them. Tony, I do believe the music is innovative - in a gentle way - just as the Alphea duo, something is there - something that you haven't heard anywhere else. In any case - innovativ/non-innovative, it does not matter - the label is great. GET THESE CDs!

Marco will probably give you a discount off a big order. He also has a comprehensive knowledge of the Italian jazz, and he will give you some Itlaian jazz recommendations. If you are ordering from jazzos, and want to explore some good stuff but are concerned about $, go to the bargain section and select the following items:

Battaglia Stefano, Oxley Tony - Explore (Splasc(h) h304)

Mazzon Guido, Petrin Umberto - Other line (Splasc(h) h317)

I believe both of these are masterpieces.

I fully agree.

Thanks for the recommendations but I'm not buying music at the moment as I recently made a rather large purchase...
