more about REPTET

Reptet is a Seattle-based group consisting of six multi-instrumentalists: Samantha Boshnack (trumpets, vocals), Nelson Bell (trombone, tuba), Izaak Mills (tenor sax, bass clarinet, flute, vocals), Chris Credit (baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, clarinet), Tim Carey (double bass, bass guitar, banjo) and John Ewing (drums, percussion, vocals). One of the early exponents of the once again booming Seattle music scene, Reptet’s previous CD releases, Do This! (Monktail 2006) and Chicken or Beef? (Monktail 2008), gained world-wide recognition and led to the group's subsequent national and international tours. Many other Seattle bands have followed suit and the world is just now waking up to the intensity, dynamism and esthetic of the NEW Seattle music scene.

more about AT THE CABIN

At the Cabin is Reptet's premier release on Kansas City-based Artists Recording Collective (ARC). This is Reptet's fourth full length CD, and fifth release overall. It was recorded in June 2010 at a cabin in Index, Washington and produced by Reptet. Engineering, mixing and mastering was done by renowned Seattle music engineer Mell Dettmer (Eyvind Kang, Mr. Bungle, Skerik's Syncopated Taint) at Aleph Studios, Seattle. The CD is accompanied by stunning cover art by the late great jazz illustrator, Jim Flora. The cover is a one-of a kind letter-press creation courtesy of Now It's Up To You Publications based in Denver, CO. The recording was made possible, in part, by a grant from Washington State's King County cultural services agency, 4Culture.

Wow -- that's out in the sticks. I'll see if I can make it though.

Really??? Google Maps says it 14 minutes from Lincoln Park - 6.8 miles. Neighborhood is Portage Park. Is that the sticks? :(

Well, as far as music-going, it's pretty far out -- anything West of Western is kind of in the sticks. I also think of everything in terms of CTA time, and it is probably 35-40 minutes, assuming I don't just miss a bus.

Hi all,

We're still looking for a place to stay in Kalamazoo on May 12th. With gas prices going out of control we're trying to limit our expenses on hotel rooms. If anyone has some extra room for us to crash it would be much appraciated. We travel with sleeping bags and pads, so any place out of the elments and running water will do...that's right, we're hardcore like that! :eye:

thanks,

-john

*ALSO*

A place to stay in Pittsburgh and Boise are needed as well.

I only caught the 2nd set but the band was great as usual. Last night was the 5th time I've seen them play their yearly gig in Philly and they did not disappoint. Which is really saying something because they played TWO gigs earlier in the day and then had a long drive down from New York. Thank you Reptet.

Yes, that was brutal. But the show was great and the tour is going swimmingly.

If you live in or near Pittsburgh, come on down to the Thunderbird tonight. It's a Pitts debut and need a little love...suggestions on a cheap hotel would be nice as well.

BTW, here some Kalamazoo press:

See you all soon,

Wednesday, May 18th Cervantes' Other Side - Denver, CO

Thursday, May 19th Reef – Boise, ID

Friday, May 20th Whiskey Jacque’s - Ketchum, ID

Saturday, May 21st The Top Hat – Missoula, MT

Sunday, May 22nd John’s Alley – Moscow, ID

Heard the band for the first time last night, and for those of you in Denver, Boise, Ketchum, Missoula, and Moscow -- do NOT miss this group between now and Sunday.

At the risk of hyperbole, "amazing" doesn't even begin to cover it. Kind of like a little more hyper version of the Either/Orchestra, with great writing and arrangements, and even better soloing.

Johnny, that's one hell of a band you've got there. Thanks for a great night!
