I was able to take advantage of a rare "I'm willing to listen to some of your music" mood of Lucy's and chose carefully. Snuck in a listen to these three:

Frank Foster & the Loud Minority - Manhattan Fever + 2 (Denon)
This is a different record than the Blue Note release with the same title. The BN Manhattan Fever was recorded in '68, and this Denon LP was made in '77.  This download also includes two bonus tracks -- the two side-long songs that made up another Frank Foster Denon LP, Bursting Out.

Spinning some LPs today. I'm running my phono preamp directly into my amp again (my amp has input gain controlled by a stepped attenuator) . . . I think I prefer the sound this way.

Pat Martino - Head & Heart: Consciousness / Live! (32 Jazz / Muse)
Such a dark, churning, serpentine sound! This is music that feels like a living, breathing thing. Doesn't get any better than that.
