I'm finding this one dangerously impossible to take out of the player...perfect "work music", you can drop in at any given point and be rewarded, drop out without feeling punished, and on and on it's gone, all day. Also waiting for the batteries to die on the Discman, so getting that nice fuzzy sound like an old LP played with a bad needle for too long. Ah. memories! Quote
jazzcorner Posted February 10, 2021 Report Posted February 10, 2021 Fanfare... the original version + the Woody Herman version on Fantasy are here. Any other versions known? Quote

jazzbo Posted February 10, 2021 Report Posted February 10, 2021 Mario Adnet "Jobim Jazz" Adventure Music cd. I love this and its sequel. Great sound and great playing. Quote
HutchFan Posted February 10, 2021 Report Posted February 10, 2021 Brazilian music for me too: Hermeto Pascoal & Grupo - Só Não Toca Quem Não Quer (Only If You Don't Want It, You Can't Do It) (Som Da Gente/Capitol/Intuition) Strange and wonderful. Listening to this, it isn't hard to understand why Hermeto is known as o Bruxo -- the Sorcerer. Quote
gmonahan Posted February 10, 2021 Report Posted February 10, 2021 Finally got hold of this set. Listening to disc 4 now. Quote
HutchFan Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 Earlier: Listened to the Hermeto disc above for a second time. Now: Mike Westbrook Orchestra - On Duke's Birthday (hat ART) Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 (edited) This is my favorite of the three Wounded Bird Kenyatta reissues I picked up recently. In fact, pretty much ready to listen to it again right away: Edited February 11, 2021 by ghost of miles Quote

BillF Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 New-on-the-scene British pianist. Acknowledged my suggestion that Barry Harris was an influence. Notice he got to accompany Grant Stewart on his 2020 tour. Quote

Now listening to: Wadada Leo Smith - Ten Freedom Summers (Cuneiform, 2012) Someone told me this is the highest ranked record of all time on Metacritic. That makes sense, I guess, because it is really really good, but I am trying to imagine the average music listener coming across it. Edited February 11, 2021 by Rabshakeh Quote
jazzbo Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 (edited) Just got in this box set, one of the last of the first edition though that makes little difference. jazzbo Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 Right now, scratching my frequent itch to play Jobim music. Joe Henderson "Double Rainbow--The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim" Verve cd. Quote
Gheorghe Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 Like the Croydon Concert from the same year and period, this is also great live Art Pepper with my favourite quartet. In that summer, Art Pepper also performed at "Velden Jazz Festival", but as much as I remember he didn´t have his own quartet and had to perform with Stan Getz´s rhythm section. I think, Lou Levy was on piano, to bad that it was not recorded, Pepper with Lou Levy , with all due respect to Milcho Leviev and George Cables, also would have been some interesting stuff. Quote
