Many times in Manchester, Leeds and London. He radiated energy (this wasn't in his final years), his head nodding vigorously to the beat when he wasn't playing.

I never spoke to him - he didn't seem very approachable. In his autobiography altoist Peter King describes the generation of Scott and Hayes as hard men.
