Coleman Hawkins "The Hawk Swings" Crown Records/Boplicity cd

c19eca19a453a13c49c2659dad4152b058da73e5

What a band!

Coleman Hawkins – tenor saxophone
Thad Jones – trumpet
Eddie Costa – piano, vibraphone
George Duvivier – bass
Osie Johnson – drums

I think I also have a Hawk album with some of those players. But I think it does not have Thad Jones, it has Benny Golson as second tenor and also this to me completly unknown pianist la Costa. I think I bought my copy for listening to the title tune "Bean and the Boys" which we play quite often.....

Has anyone pointed out this session produced 2 Crown lps with a total of 10 titles? I had both lps and would be delighted to fine a "complete" package. All 10 would easily fit on one cd.

Oops, I see P-Vine did that a few years back.

Fresh Sounds has done this as well. I think Ace Records owns this material and it would be great if they did this.

Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom – Glitter WolfR-13189728-1549648037-2575.jpg.6a040094d5ea850697f27172952311e9.jpg

This one has a better and more dynamic sound than other Miller records I've heard. Some top quality artspeak in the liner notes.

Nicholas Payton – NumbersR-6304103-1416030094-4307.jpg.736542b6945550040229992744f4b51b.jpg

I don't get Payton. This is an album of fairly tepid funky keyboard music. Good sense of groove but that's about it. Why does he do stuff like this?
