I have heard Ralph Burns only on that "Saturday Night Jazz Session"  on the America Label, that group with Fats Navarro (the reason I bought it then in the 70´s ) , Allen Eager, Charlie Ventura, Buddy Rich and I think that first number "High on an Open Mike" started with Ralph Burns on piano. I remember it was a quite unusual style, mostly with very heavy block chords on that descending chords in the bridge (I think I remember the song is based on "If I had You" in the A section with a bridge of descending chords).

Ralph Burns was member of the early Woody Herman Band (see Capitol). Very well known is his composition "Summer Sequence" in 4 parts.  Also co-writer of the famous composition "Early Autumn" featuring Stan Getz in Woodys band.

Jazz Studio 5 by Ralph Burns (Album; Decca; DL 8235): Reviews, Ratings, Credits, Song list - Rate Your Music

Listening to Dave Schildkraut with Stan Kenton, Johnny Richards, Miles, and Chuck Wayne and had to come back to this one.

This "Jazz Studio" series Vol 1 to 5 is a very fine series and highly recommended from my side.

Have 3 Volumes.

Ah, thanks. I think I will try to track it down. But what's the next 51 Chess? Weren't all of them on that album mentioned?

Rollin' Stone contains the first 50 titles (1947-1952)

Hoochie Coochie Man has the next 51 titles ((1952-1958)

You Shook Me adds 49 titles (1958-1963)

This makes a chronological survey of Muddy Waters recordings for Aristocrat / Chess records (1947-1963)

Ictus Records was offering a huge discount on their catalog before the end of the year, if you bought ten or more of their releases they were 1 dollar each plus postage.

I got a few dozen, knowing I’m not the target audience for this music but figuring it was a good way to experiment with some challenging listening. To my surprise they even threw in four bonus free cds. This is one of them:

Maybe I would subtitle it. . .“music to wash dishes by”?

I’ll say this it’s very well-recorded. My dog Fiona does NOT like it.

Andrew Raffo Dewar, Andrea Centazzo, Anne LeBaron “Encantamientos”

Harp [Acoustic Harp], Harp [Electric Harp] – Anne LeBaron
Percussion, Electronics [Live Electronics] – Andrea Centazzo
Recorded By, Mixed By, Mastered By – Clay Chaplin
Soprano Saxophone – Andrew Raffo Dewar

She'll never hear it. I do 99 percent of my listening when she is at work.

After hearing Slim Gaillard’s brilliant parodies of Billy Eckstine on “Smorgasbord” yesterday it was time to hear the man himself!

Billy Eckstine and Quincy Jones “At Basin Street East”
