This CD just arrived in the mail:

Yamashita Trio - Clay (Enja, 1975)
Yosuke Yamashita (p); Akira Sakata (cl, as); Takeo Moriyama (d)

Phew!!!  This is some potent stuff.

Over the past few weeks, I'd been streaming Clay via YouTube.  Needless to say, it sounds even more explosive & impactful in high fidelity.  :g

This record sounds like a good late 70s Sonny Rollins record as filtered through David Matthews production, and of course. Ronnie Cuber as Sonny Rollins.

Which is to say that the star soloist plays with a level of energy that surpasses both lesser accompaniment and material that is functional for the purpose at hand.

Proof again that making a paycheck record is no excuse for not coming to play!
