Someone needs to watch every episode of Family Guy closely, and see who else he outed as a predator  that apparently no one ever noticed... http://deadline.com/2017/10/family-guys-kevin-spacey-joke-resurfaces-2005-stewie-basement-1202197863/

Andy Dick, living up to his name....

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rambling-reporter/andy-dick-fired-movie-sexual-harassment-claims-1053162

But, Gwyneth  was not a typical victim. . She was not an office worker , with 3 kids, barely making ends meet....Gwyneth and her then boyfriend could have ended Harvey's rein of terror, if they had come forward 2 decades ago. I'm sure they heard of other stories even back then. and even if they couldn't convince others to come forward publicly, I am sure there would have been stories told with actresses talking to magazines, etc.

She and Brad Pitt put their careers first. and Hundreds of women were victimized because of their selflessness.

I think saying that she didn't speak out because of her career is jumping to conclusions. Like I and several others have said a bunch of time in this thread, IT IS BLOODY DIFFICULT TO SPEAK OUT. That should not be such a hard concept to grasp.

Is it possible she was emotionally fine and only kept silent for her career's sake? Sure. Should we assume that's the case and vilify her? Absolutely not. Not only because of the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing, but also because that narrative is, basically, "she was a bad victim, she could have done better". The absolutely last thing you want to broadcast to other victims (past and future) is that there is such a thing as a "bad victim" and that there is some fault in their actions.

I suspect it will sound to some like I'm splitting hairs.

In general, not speaking specifically to Paltrow's case here, there is a misplaced backlash against sexual assault and rape victims not speaking out. Sentiments like "(s)he should report it to the police, or otherwise the rapist will simply find other victims, and (s)he will be to blame" shows a profound lack of empathy. It somehow makes the victim responsible for someone else's future crimes. (Warning, rhetorical hyperbole incoming.) By that rationale, should all parents of criminals be locked up? I'm sure that divorce and growing up in poverty didn't help little Jackie Bankrobber grow up to be an upstanding citizen--throw the mom and dad in jail for not working harder in school and getting better jobs so Jackie wouldn't have had to grow up in such a crime-ridden ghetto!

Ugh. Fuck all the Weinsteins of the world. With cactuses. Up their delicate rear holes. Now I'm angry and sad again. Time to play some jazz. I think Isham Jones, maybe. (Speaking of which...anyone have recommendations on good Isham Jones collections?)

Although I have trouble with more of your post. The part I múst object to is the last bit. What you are stating there is in the category "victim blaming", sir.  No victim, not any of them, can be held responsible for the actions of a perpertrator. Never! She is nót to blame!

England swing like a pendulum do! https://www.axios.com/british-defense-secretary-resigns-over-harassment-allegations-2505052175.html?utm_medium=linkshare&utm_campaign=organic

I'm doubling down on the odds that this is more than an election-result conspiracy, this is more like a Western World sexual awareness moment of zeitgeist, all of us who have acted badly should not pretend otherwise, although, it'll be so much bette3r when Jane Average can report being predatorized by Joe Average and have it taken seriously without it being betwe Joe and Jane Average, we are either going to evolve or not, and ok, we will evolve, the question is how long will it take and who are the holdouts going to be and for how long. I mean, there will always be beasts among us, but emboldening or otherwise jsutifying  them is nothing more than a short term avoidance of a long term inevitability. Either that, of the world really is coming to an end.

So Brett Rattner is denying all allegations and suing some woman who posted on Facebook about his raping her.

Somehow I can't see this ending well.  Its virtually assured that more women are going to come out of the woodwork with stories.

Reminds me of the Law & Order episode with the ob-gyn who is assaulting patients and after getting acquitted by the judge is re-arrested and his declaration of innocence leads to hundreds of women filing complaints.  Great episode and I'd love to see it happen to this guy.

I'm sorry lipi, I hadn't seen you had already responded. When I read it, it had a sort of a 'red flag'- effect on me and I didn't think of reading the replies. In my country there are all sort of equal stories coming to the surface, also of men who were victim in the past. Yes, a mixture of sadness and anger came over me as well. I'm not familiar with Isham Jones, but will certainly look for this music when it will help to keep hanging on in sad-angry times.

I'm not sure I should post in this thread, but it makes an uncomfortable read. Here in Sweden we've already had our first local "Weinstein" thanks to the #metoo campaign. It's all too familiar; a popular television program host has for years been molesting women that have in one way or another been dependent on him. Network executives (both men and women) knew, but it was all kept quiet because he was "worth too much".

It's terrible when innocent people are accused and convicted (in court or "just" in the eye of the public) for crimes they didn't commit, be it sexual related or otherwise. But women have had to endure so much oppressive behaviour and sexual harassment from men for so long that something needs to change, radically. And if men are feeling uncomfortable by this "movement" it's nothing compared to how many times women have had to feel (rightly) uncomfortable because of a man in the room.

Regarding cross-gender relations in a work environment, it's perfectly possible to have a great professional *and* personal relation with a colleague without bringing looks into the picture. I have fun at work almost every day, and I don't feel puritanical at all.

As for holding up a door for someone, it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. If the person behind me is lecturing me about it I would assume that he/she is having a bad day or possibly other problems in life.

Daniel, this is a worldwide issue. And it always was....
That so many women are only coming forward now is indicative how ashamed they feel. This is a problem for society as a whole and we should encourage men to become involved !!!
And this problem does not concern women alone......

"Louis C.K. has finally addressed one of the comedy world’s biggest open secrets: the stories of sexual misconduct that have trailed him for years.

'These stories are true,' he wrote in a statement of remorse shared with HuffPost. . . .

I am wondering how people are viewing the Jeremy Piven response. I think its up to 4 named accusers now but he is 100% denial mode.  I liked him on Ellen (didn't have HBO for Entourage) but always thought he was pretty much a douche bag so I'm inclined to believe he's covering up some nasty secrets.
