His set in the Blues Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2019 (two years ago!) was incredible.

THIS WEEKEND: GEORGE CABLES TRIO
"Cables established himself among the jazz cognoscenti by way of his work with Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, and Bobby Hutcherson, among others. But he’s also put together his own fine albums for decades, establishing himself as an individualist whose comfort with bebop-based modern jazz has an unimpeachable stamp of authenticity."
- The New Yorker

The George Cables Trio will be available for a limited re-stream period, starting Friday at 8 PM EDT. The show, originally broadcast in September 2020, features Mr. Beautiful himself on piano, Essiet Okon Essiet on bass, and Billy Hart on drums. Tickets are $10; available on our website.

FRIDAY APRIL 9 - SATURDAY APRIL 10 / LIVE STREAMED / 8PM EST

Christian Sands (piano)
Yasushi Nakamura (bass)
Clarence Penn (drums)

“In addition to being a technically adroit, harmonically sophisticated player, Sands is one of the most profoundly rhythmic young pianists in jazz today.” – Downbeat

The incredible talent Christian Sands leads his trio with bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Clarence Penn in two nights of livestream concerts. Sands’ piano promise was recognized from a young age and his teachers have included Dr. Billy Taylor, Dave Brubeck, Jason Moran, and Vijay Iyer. He gained wide acclaim after Christian McBride added him to his group Inside Straight where he stayed for six years. The New York Times says, “Sands is already known as one of the most commanding pianists of jazz’s young generation, a gospel-infused technician with contemporary sensibilities and a deeply rhythmic approach.” Downbeat calls him, “an imaginative composer, a clever arranger and a skillful technician with a fluid style.” And, as for this trio WBGO extolls “the effortless hookup Sands has with bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Clarence Penn.”

I watch every week.

I've been catching up on YouTube. Nice to see how they've developed from the early sessions with technical glitches and just the trio to guests who now include jazz luminaries like  Grant Stewart. And all in Emmet's living room!

Steve Davis (trombone)
Steve Nelson (vibraphone)
David Hazeltine (piano)
Joe Farnsworth (drums, Friday)

“Steve Davis is the Poet Laureate of the trombone." – Chick Corea

Steve Davis celebrates his April 14th birthday with two nights of livestreamed concerts. He is leading a stirring quintet featuring vibraphonist Steve Nelson, pianist David Hazeltine, bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer Joe Farnsworth on Friday and Willie Jones III on Saturday. JazzTimes reports, “(Steve) has established himself as one of the most accomplished and lyrical improvisers on his instrument as well as a prolific composer. Downbeat adds, “Davis thoughtfully balances modernism, lyricism and drive—as a writer and a player.” These performances reunite Davis with Nelson who appeared on two of the trombonist’s celebrated recordings, Portrait in Sound and Vibe Up!.

With a richly resonant voice and soulful acoustic songs, Martínez has identified himself as a bard of the people, a vital bearer of tradition with a subtle innovative streak. From his home in Honduras, Aurelio shares his high-energy music suffused with indigenous style in a special streaming performance as part of UChicago Presents' Music Without Borders Series.

Those last four are tempting. Is there a fee to get in or is it by donation?

It's free. WWOZ is a New Orleans public radio station. You can get listen to their broadcast on their website or there is a free app for the station where you can listen to their broadcast on or through your phone. They do accept donations, of course.

I think that may be the 1970 Duke Ellington show offered on Concert Vault, but I haven't checked. I recorded the Eubie Blake 1977 set (recorded aboard the Riverboat SS President) when Jazz Alive! aired it circa 1978, though it is also a part of Concert Vault's offerings.I'll try to tune in to some of their webcasts, though their scheduling is awful for some of the ones I want to hear.

Is it audio only? I think that is what is confusing me.
