I enjoy opening up a surf guitar album every May.

The Ace label has some.  They do good work, don't they?

Yes, very good work and totally legit, licensed, etc.

Here's one of the more bizarre examples or surf music colliding headlong with mainstream America in the early 60's.

Look Ma, no amplifiers or power cords!

This, on the other hand, is real and freakin' fantastic.

And this is pretty great.

Can I safely assume that the Bobby Fuller of "El Paso Rock" is the same Bobby Fuller who had a hit with this song?

The very same, and Bobby Fuller is in one of my all time favorite rock video:

Matthew, that was my album last year!

Sundazed is another good label, isn't it?

John, thanks for the affirmation of Ace.  For whatever reason, I have always linked them in my mind with Charly.

Ace is miles ahead of Charly in every regard.  Sundazed is fabulous, sort of a better Rhino, founded by Bob Irwin.  Great remastering on Sundazed.  And their old catalogs were wonderful reading, very humorous.

Second felser's comments about Ace Records! I have their 3 volume "Birth of Surf" compilations. The well known tracks are there (mostly on Vol.1) along with the obligatory (for Ace) rare/first time on CD recordings on the other volumes. I prefer Vol.1. The booklets are decent with some brief notes about each track/artist.

Vol.1, https://www.amazon.com/Birth-Surf-Various-Artists/dp/B000PATZQ0

and the others (scroll down) https://acerecords.co.uk/various-artists-birth-of-surf

This one's a great compilation. The original version pictured above packaged the 4 CDs in a book - it's out of print now, but has been reissued in a regular jewel case minus the book.

Dave, I see that that is on the RockBeat label.  Do they do good work?

I had forgotten this one, and it's great! ReckBeat is a very good label, and this is a quality set.

Yes, I have several of their other sets, and they're a treasure trove of stuff that's off the beaten track:

https://www.discogs.com/Various-So-Cal-Speed-Shops-Hot-Rod-Classics/release/12194993

https://www.discogs.com/Various-Los-Nuggetz-1960s-Punk-Pop-And-Psychedelic-Music-From-Latin-America/release/4755470

https://www.discogs.com/The-5-Royales-Soul-Swagger-The-Complete-5-Royales-1951-1967/release/11767705

https://www.discogs.com/Various-Pulp-Pop-Culture-Box-Vol-1/release/5078013

https://www.discogs.com/Various-Groove-Grind-Rare-Soul-63-73/release/7903529

All of the above sets are also nicely packaged in 7"-8" square book-style packaging that contain the liner notes booklets as well as the CDs (with the exception of the Pulp & Pop Culture one, which is a regular CD-sized clamshell box).

Chewy, Surf Legends and Rumors has long been a favorite of mine.  Great pick!

I haven't seen the other one before, but most of its tracks I have from other compilations.

Matthew, thanks for your opinion of the RockBeat label.  I've seen a few of their issues available.

Dave, on yours and Matthew's recommendations, I have placed my order for Surf-Age Nuggets.  It should arrive in a week.

Dave and Matthew, thanks for your recommendations of Surf-Age Nuggets!  I have been enjoying Disc 1 throughout the past week.

Tomorrow being Memorial Day, I might open up the Surfaris cd.

I forgot to mention that I also picked up a copy of Brian Wilson's No Pier Pressure.
