Bandcamp waiving fees on Friday

Not sure if anyone purchases from bandcamp, but they are waiving their fees on Friday so artists can make more money. I missed this the last time they did it. There are a few I've been holding out for so I am going to purchase them Friday. I've added the email below.

Greetings,

A few Fridays ago, we waived our revenue share to help musicians impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Bandcamp community (very possibly including you!) went above and beyond, paying $4.3 million to artists and labels in just 24 hours. It was an inspiring day, and we heard many requests to do it again, so we’re going to do exactly that.

This Friday, May 1, we’re once again waiving our revenue share for all sales on Bandcamp, from midnight to midnight PDT.

If you’re fortunate enough to be in a position to spare some funds, please join us in providing some much-needed support to the many amazing artists on Bandcamp.

Details are here, and please help us spread the word!

I'm planning on buying an album or two on Friday. It's a good way to get $$ directly into the hands of the musicians.

Also this:
"But the pandemic and its impact on the music community aren’t over, so on May 1, June 5, and July 3 (the first Friday of each month), we’re waiving our revenue share for all sales on Bandcamp, from midnight to midnight PDT on each day."

Friday is upon us, I thought it would be fun to see what everyone picked up, and may inspire others to buy.

I picked up beat tapes this time. Almost exclusively cassettes, mainly because I rebuilt a Tandberg earlier this year, and secondly I have a cassette display to fill, and they are a bit cheaper so I can buy more. Plus they all come with a digital download so there isn't a need to transfer.

I am still deciding.  I may end up signing up for a subscription to Truth Revolution Records.  For as low as $10 month, you can get access to their entire catalog.  If I don't go that route, I may just buy an individual album or two. I'll probably pick up something from Destiny Records after picking up 3 impressive releases from them recently (Tom Guarna, Jon Crowley and Tyler Blanton).

Update: I ended up going with the Truth Revolution Records subscription and Tommy Howard's Storybook from Destiny Records.  TRR has 40+ releases with more in the pipeline, so I have some listening to do.

If anyone's interested, I've actually made my entire Bandcamp catalogue 'pay what you want' for a while...I figured that finances are likely to be tight for many listeners just the same as many musicians during these times, so please do feel free to take the offer at face value. [Also please do check out the amazing stuff Intakt Records have, including my latest - a duet album with the amazing Tomeka Reid.]

Just received this from Bandcamp:

This Friday, June 5th (from midnight to midnight PDT), we’re once again waiving our revenue share for all sales on Bandcamp to support artists impacted by Covid-19. We’ve put together a list of artists and labels preparing special releases for Friday, including those donating their share to organizations in support of racial justice and change.

In addition, on Friday, June 19th, we’re donating 100% of our share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a racial justice organization with a long history of effectively enacting change through litigation, advocacy, and public education.

Nice.  I see a couple that I will probably snag.  While I gravitate towards the smaller unit recordings, I am intrigued by the big band tracks on Unit[e].  I'll do some more serious sampling tonight and decide on that one as well.

I don't know the Convergence Qt releases (yet) but those other two are very special, bookends to the Ensemble story so far (more likely to come, Alex?).

I'm definitely working on some new things, one of which is indeed a sextet...hopefully some news soon!
