Jahrhundertfigur!

So we call in Germany those rare, exceptional artists - like Rolf Kühn is in many ways:
His own history (East-/West-Germany), one of the first Europeans to succeed in the US, in his case with Benny Goodman in N.Y,
enormously versatile (works for radio, tv, theatre), played with the big ones like Mangelsdorff, NHOP, Corea, Randy Brecker and finally with the young generation of German jazz up til high age (comparable with Art Blakey!), sticked to clarinet all his life, never switched to tenor.
Above all his always natural, friendly way.

RIP, Rolf Kühn

Totally. Impressions of New York was the first of his albums I heard, back in college, and it floored me. He worked with seemingly everybody, and everybody sounded like they were on fire when playing his tunes.
