Was this one of the tracks of the Russell band backing up Louis Armstrong or one of the features for the band all by themselves?

Armstrong was definitely featured, on vocals and trumpet. I can’t recall the tune, but it was a 1938 broadcast from Chicago, and Ricky identified it as coming from a Catherine Russell closet find.
