mjazzg
A couple of usually reliable sources online, Gilles Peterson and Dust To Digital, reporting that Carlos Garnett has died. https://www.instagram.com/p/CpXYuKYMBgK/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= https://twitter.com/ecrocamo/status/1631834529928298498?t=Y4U2Ky4L4J-csBHKAY-QeQ&s=
sidewinder
Oh no, yet more sad news. RIP - I was wondering why Peterson had a Carlos Garnett track in the middle of a playlist dominated by Wayne Shorter. I’d forgotten that he was on Andrew Hill’s ‘Lift Every Voice’, amongst other significant sideman appearances. Rabshakeh
RIP. Those solo records are great, alongside his more famous sideman stuff.
felser
RIP, really appreciated his playing, writing, and conception. Those 70's Muse albums sounded like nothing else, and "Mother of the Future" will always be on my desert island playlist.
mikeweil
R.l.P. I know him from those Norman Connors albums. He fit in so well there. Edited March 5, 2023 by mikeweil
Justin V
I like his playing with Andrew Hill and never got around to his leader dates. Rest in peace, Mr. Garnett, and thank you for the music.

Pim
R.I.P. mr. Garnett. I own five albums that he's on and these are all 4.5 or 5 star records for me: The Andrew Hill Mosaic Select, Pharoah Sanders' Black Unity and Live at the East, Mtumu Umoja Ensembles Alekbu Lan and of course Norman Connors' Dance of Magic. He plays some excellent saxophone there. I never got into his work as a leader as I found them a bit too smooth. But he was great.

mjzee
He was excellent on Roy Brooks's "Understanding," and, of course, his work with Miles. RIP.

Gheorghe
He is also sittin in with the Coltrane sextet in Seattle playing "Love Supreme Live". And didn´t he work with Miles Davis also, somewhere in the first half of the 70´s (when I saw Miles, he had Dave Liebman).
