Bluebird Centennial Collection(s)

In 2004 RCA issued. 6 sets of "greatest hits" cds coupled with a dvd of period clips, soundies, etc. I collected them all. I'd almost forgotten them and have taken them off the shelf to watch the video stuff this week. Anyone out there have favorites?

I love the Waller release! I have the Ellington as well.

I think I have all but the Hawkins. It positively changed my view of the Glen Miller band. Nice idea to add the DVD.

Great series. I have the Ellington (which includes some live 1941 broadcasts iirc), the Shaw, and the Goodman.

What was the video on the Hawkins?

As I don't have the Hawkins, I can't say what the videos are.

 

Turns out I skipped the Goodman. I read on the web the choice of tunes on the CD was not convincing and the video material chosen wasn't either.

Indian Summer, Avalon and Jumpin' with Symphony Sid from Art Ford's Jazz Party, Wild Man Blues (faded) from the Sound of Jazz (faded)  and Lover Man from an unidentified pilot with Cozy Cole, Milt Hinton, Johnny Guarneri.

I only have the Ellington, and wasn't sure until now how many had been released. Might have to track down some of the others, since they appear to be available at bargain prices.

I picked up a second hand copy of the Waller after reading this.  Great sound on this, better than the JSP sets.  I wish they would remaster the entire Waller catalog but I guess that won't happen any time soon.
