  1. The latest "Jazz from Studio Four" on-demand broadcast is now available .

Last April I featured jazz musicians playing "classical" music.

Shorter, Lateef, Baker playing Dvorak, Satie, Ravel, etc.

The day of broadcast was also the day Andrew Hill passed away.

His music is also part of the program.

A 2-hour excerpt of that 4-hour program, "Jazz and The Classics" is now

    available at:

    www.wgbh.org/jazz

Click on "Jazz from Studio Four"

It will be up and running for two weeks

    Enjoy!

  3. Ernie Andrews is one of the last "flat footed" jazz singers around (his term). He's paid his dues and continues to deliver when called upon to do so.

He recently, May 2-6, sold out 12 shows in 5 nights at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Lincoln Center in NYC. He performed an almost all Ellington program with the Julliard Jazz Orchestra under Victor Goines. He was having as good a time as the audience. He rarely plays club dates on the East Coast so this was a very SPECIAL gig. We drove down from Boston to catch him and it was worth every minute.

He's working on a new release for High Note records. It should be out soon

    Thanks Chuck.

My problem is that I don't have the original, only the Fresh Sounds CD with that and a couple of other session, which isn't much help. I could listen all the way through and figure it out but I was trying to save myself some time. If you have that info I would be most grateful, Thanks,

  20. Not good news regarding Jimmy's current health status. Jimmy and his wife Juanita live in W. Stockbridge, Massachusetts, in the Berkshires, an area he fell in love with while Lenox School of Jazz was happening. Jimmy used to commute into Boston to teach at NE Conservatory.

I recieved this reply from Jimmy's former bass player Bob Nieske.

Jimmy is still hanging in there, unfortunately I guess.

I spoke with Juanita a couple weeks ago trying to plan a visit with Jimmy and George Russell later this month.

Jimmy is basically in a wheel chair and can't talk. I think he's been like that for a few years now.

Makes me think national health care is a great idea. Juanita needs help but they can't afford.

She also doesn't trust nursing homes even if they could afford one.
