  1. if you have a discover card and are due a cash back bonus award, they will double it in border's gift certificates. you can request them in $20 incriments. for example - if you ask for $20 they will send you $40 and only deduct $20 from your total. that way, everything at border's is really 1/2 price. (it's actually even less, since the cash back bonus award is a gift from discover anyway).

That's a great tip, also you can use your double your bonus dollars with Red Lobster.

  2. It seems pretty clear that the regular Mosaic boxes are a decent investment-- I don't think I've ever seen one sell for less than the retail purchase price, and usually much much more.

I assume you're talking about the OOP sets?

And again, you might be talking about ebay prices.

But there have been sales on ebay for less than retail. Not often.

The Four Freshmen and Bobby Hackett probably won't sell for more, even when they go OOP.

I've seen several Mosaic sets at used stores for less than the retail price.

    It's all supply/demand.

  3. Has anybody purchased a Mosaic set from Deepdiscountcd ?

I've purchased other cds / dvds / box sets from them before.

The Gene Krupa / Harry James set is priced at $94.86. This could be right, because I also saw the Mosaic set at a local record store for $80. So they are making some profit on this item.

I assume these are slow movers that Mosaic is selling to retailers at reduced prices. Mosaic probably doesn't want the public to know about these deals.

  4. BTW, I believe as the reissuing phases out that cds will develop a "collector's value," as vinyl has today. Would love to hear what others think about this.

With CDRW making cdrs of 'rare' cds seems like the value of CDs would be reduced slightly.

But you look at ebay and you can see some OOP CDs that sell for big bucks. Even alot of the OOP CD Mosaic sets sell for $40-50/disc sometimes.

I just saw a Joan Armatrading CD sell for $140, yet you can get the LP for $1.

  5. cicuit city has the bes deal this week.  buy both the 3 cd set and the 2 dvd set for $30.  all of the circuit city's around me were sold out, but if you take the add to best buy, they will match the price.  it's really hard to beat.

    :o

    Shit, I missed that ad.

Target was advertising the CDs and DVDs for $15.99 this week.

Hey wait, the 3-CD set is only 150 minutes long. Why wasn't this put on 2 discs?

(guess there's a sucker born every minute)

  6. Saw a small announcement in today's Washington Post business section that EMI Group announced a 13% drop in music sales.

They report music sales are "slumping" and said "the market will continue to drop, hurt by competition from other leisure products and piracy. "

And this with Norah too! Perhaps does not bode well for that little old subsidiary of EMI, Blue Note.

Are you talking about music sales in general or EMI Group sales?

If EMI is worried, they can always re-issue Beatles #2 or #3.

For music in general, it just might mean there's nothing new worth buying.

What would you recommend to the general public? (besides Norah Jones) :excited:

  7. And I'd say it's a VERY safe bet this new project is heaps better than another, similar recent release.

    rod.jpg

Does that mean it won't sell as well as Rod?

If jazz fans like it, will it be a low seller?

Rod sold pretty well. I think he's gonna do another standards type album.

I like Boz, so I'll probably get it now matter what. :g

  8. For Norah Jones SACD fans:

Blue Note will release the CD as:

This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.

    Release Date: 05/20/2003
