  1. Jazztrain thanks for the input and pointing me to the discography. this led to more research and I passed your question on to two Indian Jazz history "jedi Masters"(!) I have summarized the results in a post on the blog, I think you will find it interesting see http://bluerhythm.wordpress.com/2009/11/12...dy-weatherford/
  2. I have forwarded your question to my panel of folks in India and in the US who are quite expert in the area Regarding Paul Gonslaves..watch this video (about 2/3 of the way through) for a first person account of Paul Gonsalves playing in Calcutta ! watch the video "The jazz scene was Calcutta"..you will also hear about Teddy Weatherford and Jay McShann (thanks for pointing out my typo regarding spelling) It is available at: http://bluerhythm.wordpress.com/ thanks
  3. Hi , I hope I am posting in the right forum I am making a documentary film on Jazz in India that attempts to trace the history of a small but passionate jazz culture in India. I am trying to locate copies of teddy Weatherfod recordings (other than that available on a compilation "Hot Jazz and Dance in India." Apparently Teddy recorded quite prolifically during his stay in Calcutta in the early 40s and from what I now "seeded " Indian Jazz musicians who in some cases (Cawas Khatau AKA Rudy Cotton) went to become band leaders in their own right. Teddy also groomed George Banks (Real name Buddhaprit) who is the father of Louis Banks (grammy nominated on Miles from India and a recent MclAughlin release). AS I develop this film , I hope to reach out to the folks on this board for advice and information. For background, Please see some clips from this work in progress and more on the Blue Rhythm blog http://bluerhythm.wordpress.com Thanks
