Even if it is a commercial effort, who could blame her for considering how she might make an effort to help insure the future of her family?
Huh? If, at this point in her career, insuring the future of her family is an issue, she should be finding a good lawyer and suing her management. We're talking about someone who has been able to successfully bridge the chasm between jazz and popular music, who has released nearly a dozen well selling CD's and who plays to sold out houses where ever she goes. I hardly think money is an issue or a driving force behind her decision making. I'll double down on that assertion by virtue of the fact that she's married to Elvis Costello.
You might be right. But that would be an assumption.

the beloved late shirley horn, (and many other vocalists) was falling into those contrivance and overproduction traps late in her career. why would shirley horn need a piano player and 85 violins?
I like her albums with Johnny Mandel.

I doubt she is worried about proving how good she is. Perhaps she is doing exactly what she wants. Maybe this is music is moving her at this time in her life. Just because well versed jazz listeners and musicians prefer to hear her in a specific context does not mean that it would inspire her. Even if it is a commercial effort, who could blame her for considering how she might make an effort to help insure the future of her family?

The Leslie 251 service manual is here:

Thanks jostber! I had not seen the A100 manual before. I will definitely study that page. Great links! I am a member on the organ forums, and they have been helpful. Do you know if there is also a step by step guide that helps diagnose and repair common issues? Something like a Haynes manual for cars maybe.

Its all good! I am new, so I wasn't sure if this was the right place or not.
The best guy I have found in my area is in Cincinnati, which is just over 2 hours away. So, he is not really in my area. He is really good though. But it costs a lot just to get the guy to my house. If I could learn some of the basics I would be more confident that my instrument would be reliable and I would save a lot of money.

What instrument are you talking about?
Sorry - that is an important detail!
I have an A100 and a Leslie 251.

Hello everyone -
I am wanting to learn about fixing and maintaining my instrument myself. There aren't any convenient and quality techs in my area (eastern Kentucky), so I would like to begin learning the basics. Does anyone know of sources for information?
Thanks!

Hello Everyone!
I just joined to board and thought I would introduce myself here. I have been a piano player for a long time, but started playing organ 5 years ago. I found the site through the organissimo band videos on you tube. I dig that group! There are a lot of great things posted in here too! The site looks great and I am enjoying browsing through the threads. Thank you for all you have shared!

I'm not trying to silence anyone. In truth, the music is not my favorite either. I just try to give the artist the benefit of the doubt, given that some of her other work has been great (in my opinion).
