Fast forward to 2025!
I just joined this forum after recently purchasing a Leslie 3300. I bought the floor model at a good discount from my dealer who was happy to clear his inventory for the new 3500. I decided for the 3300 after reading Jim's review from about 15 years ago (!).
I have read the posts on here about the tube, including Jim's suggestion of starting TUBE DRIVE LEVEL and TUBE MODE at 12 o'clock. However, I hear no different regardless of how I change the settings. The only thing that changes is the volume level as I turn up the tube drive level, accompanied by a slight hum as I approach the limit, so I reduce the overall volume as I increase the drive level to compensate. And yet, nothing changes much in the character of the sound.
My 3300 is connected to my Nord Electro 6D on which I have the out put volume at about 50%. I followed Jim's tip and dropped in a 12AT7, but no discernible difference until I followed Jim's tip to put the expression pedal to the metal. At this point I did hear a bit of distortion, but this solution isn't practical because I need the full travel of the pedal to control my volume. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
For now I'm going to use the digital overdrive know on the Nord.
Thanks... David
