[Why are there so few jazz mega box sets]

Classical music has tons of mega box sets (25 or more disks).  However, this is a rare occasion in jazz (the Miles Davis on Sony comes to mind).  Why is this?  And, what would you like to see a mega box set of?

[A Thought Regarding Universal now owning Blue Note]

Now that Universal owns Blue Note and Verve, I wonder if we will begin to see some of the large box sets that are frequently issued in classical music in jazz.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

[Are Blue Note RVG's overpriced?]

I think that some of you are missing the point of my question.

In classical music, there are collectors as fanatical as in jazz. The RCA Shaded Dogs, the Mercury Living Presence, The DG Originals, the classic EMI recordings of the 60's and 70's and the classic Decca recordings are as fiercely coveted as the RVG's among jazz collectors. Yet, in each of these mid-priced editions, the respective record companies (EMI included) have chosen to have these discs include enough material to come out at 60-70 minutes on average. The point is why can't EMI do the same thing with the RVG's?

This may be heretical, but here goes.

Most of these CD's only contain 30-40 minutes of music.

The packaging is nothing special.

If you look at some of the other deluxe editions in classical (Mercury Living Presence, Decca Legends, DG original), they contain far more music, often combining several albums.

And look at the Mosaics -- often 60-70 minutes per disk, detailed liner notes and not that much more expensive per disk.

Any thoughts?

I was at jazzmatazz and looked at the upcoming releases.

They listed a few of the recent Mosaic selects and link you to CD Universe.

On their site, they note that these are from Koch Entertainment.

Is this true?
