nmorin Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 I know these sorts of questions come up all the time--my apologies. Anyhow, I am more than happy to buy the RVG or K2 if the consensus is that sonic improvement is significant (like "The Birth of the Cool" or "New Jazz Conceptions"). Is the sonic upgrade on the RVGs of Rollins' "Volume 1", "Volume 2", or "Newk's Time" substantial? Quote
Soul Stream Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I think they are a vast improvement over the old CD issues. Of course, just my opinion. But I don't think you'd be disappointed, especially considering how classic those sides are. Quote
BruceH Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I also say "yes," they are enough of an improvement to upgrade, but I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me. Quote
HWright Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Another thumbs up for the Sonny Rollins BN RVGs. I have them all and have been enjoying them all, especially "Newk's Time," which is now my favorite Sonny BN album. Sonny's BN catalogue was originally issued on CD quite early in the CD era I think, and has been much greatly improved by remastering (in my opinion at least...I know the RVG series has its detractors!). In fact, I think the CD of "Newk's Time" was one of the first BN reissue CDs ever...It was certainly one of the first ones I ever saw, along with Coltrane's "Blue Train." Quote
sal Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Not sure if this information is being asked for, but the upgrade of "Live at the Village Vanguard" is a substantial improvement. Quote
