What are your favorite non- Alfred Lion Blue Notes? I alway consider Lion the ears of the true Blue Note sound, but playing with my database revealed that some really good Blue Notes weren't produced by Alfred Lion.

In two parts:

Favorite Duke Pearson production

Favorite Francis Wolff production

(I don't care about your favorite Mizell Bro. That's your problem)

OK, me first

Duke Pearson - Herbie Hancock's THE PRISONER

recently got this disc and just realized last night that Duke Pearson produced it.

Francis Wolff - Andrew Hill's GRASS ROOTS

(a lot of competition from some great Lou Donaldson and John Patton dates including UNDERSTANDING)
