Sonny Fortune and the Ron Perillo Trio are playing at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago this week. I'll be there this Sunday; anyone else in????

I saw him with John Hicks this summer while in San Francisco. He's great live.

That's good to hear, David. I've never seen him before so I'm looking forward to it!

Assuming the venue is small enough, he'll hang out between sets, selling his latest CD and signing autographs. I talked to him a short time between sets at Yoshi's.

The show was pretty good; Sonny's a good player. He played several tunes during the 70 minute show; Monk's "Hackensack", Dorham's "Blue Bossa", a nice version of Victor Young's "Delilah", "Four" by Cleanhead Vinson; stolen by Miles ;) and a tune by Trane that I can't put my finger on. He did spend a few minutes plugging his latest cd which he would gladly autograph; he had several takers.

I'll post a few photographs later this week.

He opened with a Trane tune when I saw him. Recall it was from JC's Atlantic era but don't remember the exact tune.
