alankin Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 EJ is a phenomenal drummer and perfectly sweet bloke. He was on the gig at Zinc last month and sounded great. Has EJ played with anyone else before Ravi's group? Che. I think he's also played on some of David Weiss's Fresh Sound New Talent dates, including ones by Robert Glasper and Marcus Strickland. Quote

Thanks for the information, I think I have some MP3's somewhere that has Ravi and Strickland on them. I will have to try and dig then out. Che. Quote
jazzsphere Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 I've followed Ravi's career and he is one of my favourite saxophonists. His new CD "In Flux" is oustanding. Here's an article I wrote about it on allaboutjazz.com: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=16765 Regards, MarkT. Quote
7/4 Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 He's playing in NYC this weekend. And he was on WKCR on Thursday afternoon doing promo. Sounds like a pretty balanced cat too. Quote

I disagree. He doesn't get any more attention than any of his peers. Maybe he'll get an article in a magazine, but just look at boards like this one, or just talking in with other jazz lovers. His name is hardly ever brought up. Maybe lately its being discussed more than normal, because he has a very nice new album out, and he gave a fine performance on his mother's recent CD. But he's been around for a long time, and he's not discussed that much at all. Quote

I think some of this is his own choice, I read an article a while ago and he talked about some of the difficulties being the son of John, and wanting to find his own voice. Well not perhaps he is beginning to emerge out of the shadows of his great father? Che. Quote
