Claude Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I bought just two RVG reissues from the latest batches, Wayne Shorter "Night dreamer" and Donald Byrd "Fuego". For both discs I have the late 80's McMaster remastered CDs which sound quite crappy and I expected a major sound upgrade. But for both discs, even when A/B-ing directly I hardly could hear a difference between the remasterings. The RVG CDs are clearly louder (maybe also slightly compressed), but the frequency balance sound just like the previous CDs. On most RVGs released since 1999, the treble is boosted (often too much), the dynamics are better and the sound is less distant than on the McMasters (Connoisseurs). So I'm wondering if Rudy is still behind the controls. For the moment, I won't upgrade CDs unless they contain some bonus material. How is your impression of the sound of the latest RVGs? Quote
