just exchanged email with benny golson. he and my dad Elmon Wright were buddies and bandmates in both Dizzy Gillespie and Earl Bostic's bands. of the bio's ive read, they don't go into this period in any depth. What a genius. He could have had a fabulous career off of his writing alone not to mention his stellar tenor sax work. He remembered me, my sister, mom and aunt from when the band visited San Francisco MANY years ago. He is scheduled to appear at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA in March. Guess who will be in the first row of seats..............
