Maybe some of our members could help and bring some light on this: "Would anyone know what African-American female singers might have been performing at the Capitol Theatre in Harlem in January or February of 1922? I'm looking for the singer whom Darius Milhaud describes in his autobiography ("a Negress whose grating voice seemed to come from the depths of the ages"). Ethel Waters was out on tour in this period. I have a feeling it was Mamie Smith..." Thanks in advance! Quote
