Aftab Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Ken Edwards - trumpet and flugelhorn Tom Luer - tenor saxophone Noel Johnston - electric guitar Stockton Helbing - drums and cymbals Brian Mulholland - four-string electric bass This new CD by the current bassist for Maynard Ferguson is a real treat. It's not just another chops record, but an album featuring some great tunes, a great ensemble, and a very cohesive feel. Fave tunes: McKinley - nice staccato bass/guitar groove with a catchy flugel/alto sax melody over the top that I can't get out of my head Deco - very cool head with some great solo work Stoplight Won't Change - head with a Dixie Dregs/Aquarium Rescue Unit/Flecktones type of vibe Brian's got chops to spare, but uses them tastefully, so when you hear a multifinger tapped run or chords/bassline or melody/bassline, it fits seamlessly into the flavor of the tune. All in all highly recommended. You can get it through CD Baby or iTunes. Listening to this CD now for a couple of days has inspired to practice my bass (man, my fingers are sore) Quote
