Soul Stream Posted August 2, 2003 Report Posted August 2, 2003 I always remember Big John's birthday, but until the Burrell thread didn't think about posting it. So anyway, here's to Big John. He was a good friend and one of the jazz world's greatest organists. One of the few organists with a completely original style and concept. I talked with his wife today, and shared a few good laughs about some things John use to say and do. She's doing well and is looking forward to the Mosaic Select that is coming out of John's work. Think I'll put on some Patton, pop a beer and groove a while! Happy Birthday John... Quote
DrJ Posted August 2, 2003 Report Posted August 2, 2003 Happy Birthday, Big John! I wasn't lucky enough to have ever seen him play or meet family members, so the closest I get to "knowing" the man is through John Zorn's wonderful liner notes for BOOGALOO - reading those, and hearing Big John's funky B3, always brings a smile to my face. Those were some nice liner notes by Zorn. Just another reason to love "Boogaloo." Quote
