Art Yard Records in U.K. did release Hiroshima by Sun Ra yesterday on 180 gr. vinyl. They have previously released these original Saturn records by Sun Ra:

Media Dreams

Disco 3000

On Jupiter

Beyond the Purple Star Zone

Sleeping Beauty

More info at the forum: http://www.the-temple.net/astroblack/news.html

My favourites records are "Sleeping Beauty" and "On Jupiter". Real groovy records with that special avant space jazz feel.

Art Yard is on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/artyard

Seems like they are going to release more original Saturn's in the future. Here is hoping for new reissues of "Nature's God", "Horizon", "Omniverse" and "The Antique Blacks" too!

i think an argument could be made that the mid-late 70s was the best period of sun ra's long career. i feel this way. probably many others do not.

for some reason i always passed it by in the store but i recently discovered that "strange celestial road" is another good one from around this time (might be early 80s)...that scratches the "lanquidity" "sleeping beauty" itch.

I'm with you on that! I have listened a lot to "Strange Celestial Road" lately. Seems like it's from 1979.

Sun Ra in this period was in a very productive phase releasing a lot of wonderful records. He used a lot of various keyboards with different-sized groups creating new sounds in jazz, as well as touching other genres. An example is the title track on "On Jupiter", and "U.F.O.".

"Lanquidity" is a fine cool one originally released on Philly Jazz, now available on Evidence. "Of Mythic Worlds" released on the same label in 1979 is on my reissue wish list, as well as the 3 Horo vinyls from the 70's.
