Cliff Englewood Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Although I know it's not a Jazz book, but as he's back in the news again recently I thought I would give this a bit of a plug, for anyone who's interested. It really is a very enjoyable read. It turns out that early on he got some very important advice on how to make a living in the music business from none other than Barney Kessel!!!! Spector was a huge Kessel fan, he actually wrote a letter to Downbeat telling them they should give him more coverage. He eventually got to meet him and was looking for tips on how to make it as a Jazz guitarist but to cut a long story short Kessel told him it would be really difficult to make a living in Jazz and that the real money was in Publishing and Production!!! Oh yeah, by the way, he is sooooooooooooooo guilty. Quote
