BeBop Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I can't recall seeing much discussion of "pirate" radio stations here. In part, I suppose that's because there aren't all that many jazz-focused stations. I just landed at the Oakland airport and tuned in to KRKD (103.3 FM). I'm not sure how far the station reaches - certainly no further than San Francisco - so it's probably known only to Bay Area folk. Classic Jazz Saxophone show is on at the moment. Nice. And it sure beats that place down the Peninsula...that, on top of other shortcomings, has a pledge drive on now. Bay City Blues used to do jazz in Michigan. But their webstream (based on the last bookmark I've got) is .rdl format that my computer won't handle. For whatever reason - legal, economic, logistical - the UK seems to have more pirate stations. (Is Dread Broadcasting Corporation still around? Swinging Radio England?) A few other places I've got noted, not jazz-focused, but good: Free Radio Berkeley 104.1 Humboldt (CA) Radio Free Alliance 99.9 Recommendations? Stories? Quote
