AmirBagachelles Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I searched for an old thread, surprised not to find one. I have been enjoying Fred's discs off and on since about 2000, trying to go back over the past two weeks and find time to listen to what I have. I really like The Missing Link (esp. track 2 Ballad for Rita), and the second Velvet Lounge set. Come to think of it, I recall liking everything I ever heard by Fred! I don't have the duo with Steve McCall, does anybody know it? Fred really gets his drummers into a groove with his sustained and beautiful flights. I listened to Milwaukee vol. 1 over the weekend (where is vol 2?), it's very intense, typically great Hamid Drake too. I wish there were more of this vintage, but I would like to check out some of his more recent output. Suggestions? Quote

robviti Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 ...I don't have the duo with Steve McCall, does anybody know it?.. i know it well and i think it's excellent. i agree with you - i'm hard-pressed to think of a recording by fred that i don't like. i just got back from his 80th birthday celebration at the velvet. a very moving experience with a lot of great music from many different artists, all singing their praises to "baba fred." and we all got cake too! AmirBagachelles Posted March 26, 2009 Author Report Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks for that link, there is a ton of info there. Says Milwaukee vol. 2 was due for release... And DMG said on the phone that they just got new copies of the Anderson-McCall duo disc today. Quote
