I searched for an old thread, surprised not to find one. I have been enjoying Fred's discs off and on since about 2000, trying to go back over the past two weeks and find time to listen to what I have. I really like The Missing Link (esp. track 2 Ballad for Rita), and the second Velvet Lounge set. Come to think of it, I recall liking everything I ever heard by Fred! I don't have the duo with Steve McCall, does anybody know it? Fred really gets his drummers into a groove with his sustained and beautiful flights. I listened to Milwaukee vol. 1 over the weekend (where is vol 2?), it's very intense, typically great Hamid Drake too. I wish there were more of this vintage, but I would like to check out some of his more recent output. Suggestions?

i know it well and i think it's excellent. i agree with you - i'm hard-pressed to think of a recording by fred that i don't like. i just got back from his 80th birthday celebration at the velvet. a very moving experience with a lot of great music from many different artists, all singing their praises to "baba fred." and we all got cake too!
